Neighbour running hairdressers from her house

My neighbour is a hairdresser, she has a salon in town which is obviously closed at the moment. I’ve noticed lots of cars coming and going to hers over the last few weeks which has annoyed me but I’ve not said or done anything just carried on following the lockdown rules. I was putting the bins out last week and she had her back door open and I thought I could have seen someone sitting in her kitchen with a hairdressing gown on but then one of the DC shouted me and I thought no more of it, but it’s particularly warm here today and she has her back door open and we’ve been in the garden all morning and I’ve seen 2 people come stay about an hour and leave. She sweeps up kitchen in between, I’m assuming they’re having their hair cut but don’t know for sure. She lives with her partner who is bald so it wasn’t him I saw with hairdressing gown on. Should I report her to someone, have a word with her? No previous issues, normal neighbourly interactions.

as long as you can maintain social distancing; which you can't when cutting hair; unless she has exceptionally long arms

Grin Yeah, I mean unless she's Mr Tickle she's a bit stuffed doing the two metre distancing thing lol
Happygirl79 · 21/04/2020 16:36

She is trading Illegally and should be reported
The utter selfishness and stupidity of some people never ceases to amaze me

diddl · 21/04/2020 16:39

Has she furloughed herself/others?

I don't think that she should be doing it.

She might be working from home but then non family members are in & out of her house also, so surely that's not on?

Flaxmeadow · 21/04/2020 16:47

I suspect it's a grey area and she may be allowed to work.

It really isn't a grey area. She is breaking the law

That says hair beauty and nail salons.

That is completely irrelevant here. She is not operating a salon.

Bubblewings · 21/04/2020 16:57

As far as I’m aware, the only people who can provide a service from their own homes where they come into contact with others are childminders as they are key workers providing child care to other key workers.

LaurieFairyCake · 21/04/2020 17:07

And chiropodist, chiropractors, physios etc - lots working from home offices

Flaxmeadow · 21/04/2020 17:20

No it is not. It refers to businesses... "of businesses"

Ninkanink · 21/04/2020 17:29

‘Businesses and venues’, ‘shops and public premises’. Which of these in particular do you think refers to people working from home?

This discussion gets so tedious.

TheGreatWave · 21/04/2020 17:36

I am not sure who is the most irresponsible her or the high number of people going to see her.

cookingmywaythroughlockdown · 21/04/2020 17:43

Just shop her to the Revenue. No way is she paying tax Grin

IceCreamWaffles · 21/04/2020 17:45

I suspect this is pretty common. One of my friends mentioned she's just had her hair cut, and a friend of a colleague (barber) is apparently going round cutting people's hair and is so busy she's booking a day ahead.

The80sweregreat · 21/04/2020 18:02

Blimey, I joked to my brother in a text ages ago that ' speak easies' will spring up somewhere and I bet they are : ( I don't know any landlords or ladies myself but I would bet my last fiver there are one or two hidden away undercover in remote places!)

As for the op's neighbour , I would be annoyed too but unless she reports it there's little can be done. I'm desperate for a trim myself , but I just wouldn't risk it. Madness.

CaryStoppins · 21/04/2020 18:07

There are lots of building sites open and factories where they can't social distance, cutting hair at home is much lower risk than that.

katienana · 21/04/2020 18:12

I wouldn't say anything, if you dont go in it doesn't affect you.

Flaxmeadow · 21/04/2020 19:07

It is not about whether or not she works from home.

She is running a "hair"..."business" from her home.
And even apart from that, her kitchen is the new "salon"

Flaxmeadow · 21/04/2020 19:14

A protest in Michigan where a woman is protesting because she can't get her hair done

This is the mentality you're dealing with Hmm

Ninkanink · 21/04/2020 19:37

If you really don’t understand, best not to comment.

habibihabibi · 21/04/2020 19:43

I'd stick my head through a cat door in order to get my highlights down right now.

Gwenhwyfar · 21/04/2020 19:46

"I wouldn't say anything, if you dont go in it doesn't affect you."

Not true. Having many visitors next door is bringing the illness to OP's street. She is more at risk because of this woman's behaviour. It also just spreads it more around society in general causing problems for all of us.

InTheShadiws · 21/04/2020 19:48

Who do you think you can 'report' her to? And what do you think would happen?

ozark · 21/04/2020 19:48

doesnt it say in guidelines to work from home wherever possible?

englishrosie · 21/04/2020 19:48

Give me her number OP, need my roots doing!
The only reason I'd be annoyed is because she isn't doing mine!

SunShine682 · 21/04/2020 19:51

Wish she was my hairdresser right now.

byvirtue · 21/04/2020 19:51

Let the woman earn a living, it’s none of your business.
