You are the problem. The rules are simple. Go out and exercise and then go home. Just that, nothing more than that.

To be fair then problem is actually bigger than that and has been brewing for years as we increasingly become a country with rules but almost everyone has an excuse for why that rule shouldn’t apply to them/their child/family.

What was the purpose of starting this thread ?
Do you know lots of people doing this ?
I know some people are bored but is there really a issue with this ?
I mean it's like someone on my local fb out at the supermarkets complaining at all the people out , your out love Hmm
God I can't wait till we get back to normal and have the parking threads back . Confused

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 21/04/2020 09:34

OP - I think most people are only reading your first paragraph because the truth of your second paragraph makes for uncomfortable reading! I totally agree with you that a good proportion of the current young and children have grown up with hardly any discipline, being allowed to do just what they want to, so naturally any type of instruction is going to make them stamp their tiny feet and say 'no'!

Monty27 · 21/04/2020 09:34

@30PurpleFlower1983 Grin
And that doesn't mean Mumsnet guidelines 😂😂

GlummyMcGlummerson · 21/04/2020 09:35

So @Candodad to summarise

  • resting for 5 minutes = ok
  • testing for 5 minutes whilst snacking = BAD

Why

What's the difference?

Or are you not of those folks who have "rules" about when it's polite to eat?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 21/04/2020 09:37

Everyone talking about exercise and a rest I never said I had an issue. It’s the “having a little snack with my family” that is the issue. I.E. a picnic!

I'm not. I'm talking about sitting on a bench, stuffing my face with crisps and chocs and there's nothing you can do about it.

deal with it.

MrsKoala · 21/04/2020 09:39

Every Sunday we go to the local woods (we walk) and H dresses in his gillie suit (don’t ask) and hides and me and the kids play catch the Bigfoot. We pack snacks and water and sit on logs to rest occasionally. We are out for about 3-4 hours.

People have become very strange very quickly and a lot seem to be enjoying the feeling of petty righteous superiority.

SunShine682 · 21/04/2020 09:42

When did a snack aka a packet of crisp become a bloody picnic😂

onanothertrain · 21/04/2020 09:43

If i was expecting a picnic and all I got was a bag of crisps I'd be gutted.

U2HasTheEdge · 21/04/2020 09:43

I walked my dogs the other day by the river (walking distance) and I let the dogs play in the river and I sat on the grass and enjoyed the sun.

I saw no reason not to. I was way more than 6 foot from anyone else, it was very quiet, and the risk to myself and anyone else was zero. I wasn't harming anyone but it was lovely to sit in the sun for a bit in nice scenery.

Why deny myself that little pleasure when there was zero risk?

The message isn't really 'stay at home, save lives' it's stay at home so not to overwhelm the NHS. In a few weeks time they will relax lockdown and the risk of catching corona will still be there.

I see daily how lockdown is really harming people's mental health and that scares me much more. If little things like walking and sitting down helps lift your mood for a while then bloody do it, as long as you are doing it safely.

TheStuffWasBad · 21/04/2020 09:44

Read the guidelines posted above.

Its OK in England to stop for a rest or to eat lunch.

Eating crisps while having a rest is fine. Stopping to eat lunch is fine.

So what is your issue?

fuckinghellthisshit · 21/04/2020 09:47

I would be interested to know if any of those saying YANBU and who would forbid sitting in the park have gardens. I bet they all do.

Littlebean0506 · 21/04/2020 09:48

09:39MrsKoala I used to do that with my dad in our local woods. Reading that has just bought back so many memory's of dad hiding in his gilliesuit trying to get the dog to stay quite so me and brother could find them.

Mammyloveswine · 21/04/2020 09:48

Ffs you are allowed a sit down and a snack on a long walk...

Sick of the fucking wannabe gestapo judging everyone!

Same as the "people never used to have a daily walk" no because they had the freedom to do a million other fucking things!

Don't take a picnic but an Apple sat on the grass is fine!

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 21/04/2020 09:49

Oh who fucking cares? Stop being such an officious curtain twitcher and worry about your own affairs.

BambooSurprise · 21/04/2020 09:50

*Every Sunday we go to the local woods (we walk) and H dresses in his ghillie suit (don’t ask) and hides and me and the kids play catch the Bigfoot

....

People have become very strange very quickly*

Indeed Grin Grin Grin

Mammyloveswine · 21/04/2020 09:50

Also.., exercise is NOT LIMITED TO A FUCKING HOUR! Sick of seeing made up shit quoted because Michael bastard Gove said something along these lines AS HIS PERSONAL OPINION

ShouldWeChangeTheBulb · 21/04/2020 09:51

I do get judgy when people carry on having friends and family over and ignore the rules. However stopping for a packet of crisps is neither against the ‘rules’ or putting you in danger. YABU

HugeAckmansWife · 21/04/2020 09:52

OP do you have kids? Rightly or wrongly, having snacks always available is one of the primary rules of parent hood, right from toddlerdom to teenagehood. They are growing, they do get hungry, they do get bored and if I can bribe my kids to do a great long healthy walk with a packet of wotsits and an apple each, I will.

SharonasCorona · 21/04/2020 09:53

Candodad

So we have a man trying to explain social distancing to us.

You barely even returned to your dad, candodad. Not quote the response you were hoping for I guess.

FlapAttack23 · 21/04/2020 09:53

I sat down and had crisps 🥳🥳🥳

Mammyloveswine · 21/04/2020 09:53

@littlebean0506 I had a similar argument with someone who lives by the sea... he said "people should be happy to just walk the streets they live" ok for him with miles of picturesque north east coast!

maddy68 · 21/04/2020 09:54

The rules have changed. You CAN sit down on your walk , you CAN eat food or have a drink
I admit it's confusing but thats the rules

Frompcat · 21/04/2020 09:54

These threads are beyond tedious now.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 21/04/2020 09:58

As someone said on the other thread which discusses crisps...

Your picnics are shit

Makeitgoaway · 21/04/2020 09:58

Maddy68, the rules haven't changed. The rules always allowed that, some people interpreted them incorrectly, including some police forces. Which is why it is right people question these things.
