Has anyone else got ‘COVID toes’

My DJ has had red swollen and ulcerated goes for the last week. Initially he thought it was athletes foot, albeit in the wrong part of the foot and not looking quite typical. Then he googled and found articles on Covid toes -mainly from the US, but the pictures are exactly the same as my DH’s toes.

When I typed calamine lotion, I actually meant sudocrem !! Works a treat, although calamine lotion might help too !

www.forbes.com/sites/judystone/2020/04/27/spots-on-toes-and-rashes-join-weird-new-symptoms-of-coronavirus/

"In a more recent series, the lesions were primarily on the fingers or toes. Biopsies showed some lymphocytic (type of blood cell) infiltration around blood vessels.

Dr. Ramon Grimalt, dermatology professor at UIC-Barcelona, also provided early reports from Spain noting that children were being seen with chilblains of fingers and toes. These lesions are caused by cold, which causes inflammation of blood vessels in the skin in some people. These kids generally had no or few respiratory or other symptoms of COVID-19. The Spanish General Council of Official Colleges of Podiatrists opened a registry to collect all these unusual cases. They warned that while these skin lesions were benign (not a problem, in themselves) they were notable as a sign of asymptomatic infection with coronavirus."

"The American Academy of Dermatologists has its own registry and is looking for submissions from health care professionals."

My dd14 had this last week! Rash and small bumps over toes, swollen and red but started turning bit blue which is why I phoned Dr's. Dr asked me to email photos, she thought maybe chilblains but mentioned there have been links to covid. Dd said they itched and hurt and couldn't bear anything touching them.

All cleared up now and no other symptoms, very odd!

my toe bumbs looked exactly like that, silver

boomchikawowwow · 29/04/2020 09:59

@silver mine we exactly the same as that too

1forsorrow · 29/04/2020 10:25

My only strange symptom is itching, I swear I could rip the skip off my back, it has been the last week or 10 days. I haven't changed washing powder or soap so I have no idea what it is but it is driving me crazy.

Mybobowler · 29/04/2020 10:56

@silver yep, that's what mine looked like as well. It'll be fascinating, once an antibody test comes available, to find out whether this is a sign of mild/asymptomatic covid.

Raindrops13 · 29/04/2020 16:49

My Teen DD complained of itchy burning feet today. We haven't had anyone in the house with symptoms for around 4 weeks now and DD has only been out on a couple of walks with the dog. No other symptoms so far.

That looks similar to my dh’s feet when they started

Are these covid toes?

I thought it was hives but maybe not?

I had awful headache, fatigue and vomiting two weeks ago

DS had fatigue and wheezing ( he is asthmatic)

DH had fatigue and headache

Dd had these toes and fatigue

Coronavirus?

My dh’s weren’t like that -they were larger areas, raised and red.

I see it’s covered on sky news today

I've had this all week, though no other symptoms. Just red shiny itchy skin by my toenails.

Thinking it must be chilblains though as have only been to a supermarket three times in last six weeks and nowhere else.

dairyfairies · 02/05/2020 12:35

bit warm for chilblains, kerk

fwiw, I have them too. only supermarket as all and no other symptoms. apparently, they often appear in otherwise asymptomatic patients. But I will probably never find out what they are.

Twooter · 02/05/2020 12:56

Look exactly like my husband’s, kerkyra. Have you had chilblains before? If not would be very surprising to get them just now when there’s been a heatwave.

OP posts:
kerkyra · 02/05/2020 22:44

Nope, never had chilblains before. But get cold feet alot so wear socks alot and also to bed?!
It's weird as they itch like mad at night but ok in the day. I haven't had a temp or cough ( for years) and otherwise healthy so will let you all know of anything comes of it

kerkyra · 02/05/2020 22:45

But not wearing socks to bed at mo as trying to cool the swellings

debbs77 · 11/05/2020 00:38

How is everyone doing with this now? My son still has them but other than being itchy, they aren't bothering him.

He hasn't had a cough or any other symptoms.

I've had a cough for 8 weeks, now a cold, but nothing else thankfully

dairyfairies · 11/05/2020 08:18

mine went after about 10 days. no other symptoms (if it was Covid - may have been completely unrelated).

SocialifeofHotWaterBottle · 11/05/2020 14:35

I've had this too! I thought I had a touch of gout in my big toe but the pain wasn't in my joint and it was itchy as much as painful!

Thanks for starting this thread OP!

Twooter · 16/05/2020 13:27

My dh’s looked as though it was settling down, and now, about 6 weeks after it started, it seems to be coming back. Not sure what that means.

OP posts:
SocialifeofHotWaterBottle · 16/05/2020 15:27

It's weird how it isn't mentioned in the mainstream media though isn't it? If you Google it, they say it's the preserve of kids and teens and yet I am sure I've had it and I'm 57.

Twooter · 16/05/2020 19:37

It has been mentioned on sky news and BBC, but just as a one-off. Apparently they now ask about it on the Zoe COVID app.

bigbadoldbag · 16/05/2020 19:49

My son had this, he had weird blisters on a few toes and an itchy rash on the rest. The GP initially gave him antibiotics but they did nothing which is why she now thinks it's viral.
She says she's seen so many cases of this, in asymptomatic people, she's sure it's CV toe!
