Lovely country walk this afternoon. Passed two lots of mother ducks with ducklings - one pictured here - and passed a cottage with my name!

Hello everyone. Do you mind if I join you? I’ve been lurking for a while but not posted yet. I’ve been very up and down over the past few weeks, but for some reason I’ve found this week particularly hard. I phoned my mum yesterday thinking I would be ok and ended up crying through half of it. I felt so bad afterwards, she’s 78 and lives alone but seems to be coping pretty well. She gets a Sainsbury’s delivery each week and buys extra things for the neighbours Grin. I just find it really hard not being able to see her and knowing that she’s all alone.
Anyway, I’ve taken a step towards better mental health today by deleting Twitter from my phone. I was finding it really difficult not to look at endlessly every day and my head just ends up spinning with it all.
It’s been lovely to see all your photos and to read some positivity on here. Flowers

Millie2013 · 25/04/2020 20:41

@Bunnyflop George is allowed out onto a fenced off part of the patio, free ranging during the spring and summer (while someone is in the house). There are no plants there, I wouldn't let him loose in the garden, as there are too many plants I doubt are bunny friendly. I check his bum 2x/day and we have used rearguard on former buns, to guard against fly strike

Asgoodasarest · 25/04/2020 20:56

@fadingfast I think we all feel similar. Some days are good, others we struggle. It’s ok to admit that you’re worried and I’m so glad you’re taking a break from social media. I do very little now, compared to what I did. I just found the endless news, shares and opinions overwhelming. Plus once something is in black and white it’s easy to take it on board as fact. But a lot of it is opinion and speculation. So stick to one trusted source and once a day if you can xx

riotlady · 25/04/2020 21:26

Positive couple of days here, had a lovely morning playing with DD and managed to sneak some “grown up bonding time” in with DP during nap time xD

Tonight I’m going to have a bubble bath and try out some bits and pieces from my Birchbox. Would really recommend them if anyone fancies a little treat through the post

ExpletiveDelighted · 25/04/2020 22:44

I've found with social media apart from local rant type groups which I've hidden now there is far less being shared than there was a few weeks ago, a lot of people seem to have reverted back to just putting up nice pictures of flowers or whatever.

MinesaPinot · 25/04/2020 22:50

Evening everyone. Hope all is okay with you all. I've had a really down couple of days - work has been busy and I've had bouts of being really down all of a sudden. But today has been sunny, I walked up to our village shops with DH, got all the washing out and blowing in the sunshine and sat in the garden and read my book. We've had a lovely steak dinner cooked by DH, and just watched Superman with Henry Cavill - ooh that boy has some muscles! And I was browsing the Tesco website earlier and on the complete off chance got a delivery slot for Tuesday - I was amazed - so have had a bit of a stock up. Of course then I'm panicking about delivery drivers handling, should I be wiping everything done when it comes etc. I swear to god I never used to worry this much before all this happened.

Asgoodasarest · 25/04/2020 23:00

@minesapinot with Sainsbury’s it’s all bagged up if that helps. So not loose in the crates.

@ExpletiveDelighted that’s good to know thank you.

MinesaPinot · 25/04/2020 23:19

Thanks Asgoodasarest. I had a look at my order and it said it comes without bags but I'm sure I'll be fine, just having a bit of a wobble! It'll be interesting to see if I get it all. I've ordered the elusive Tinned Tomatoes!!!

Blerg · 25/04/2020 23:24

Thanks to you all for posting here, it’s been a rough week and this is very uplifting.

Welcome @fadingfast I can relate to what you said.

MinesaPinot · 25/04/2020 23:29

Hi fadingfast welcome to the thread! I can totally understand where you are coming from, especially with regard to your mum. Mine's 83, lives on her own and doesn't have internet or anything so just goes out and gets her shopping. I've said I will get it for her and take it over, but she doesn't want that. She wants to keep us safe, and she says she's only got to pop round to Lidl's round the corner and get her bits and then she's home. Everytime she's gone round there people in the queue have ushered her in first, and last time she had a bit of a stock up which was a couple of weeks ago. She hasn't been out since but says she may have to go Monday or Tuesday. She likes to get out and get some air. I talk to her every day to make sure she's ok and she's remarkably upbeat and seems to be coping very well. Even before this she was only going out once, or maybe twice a week, so this isn't really any different for her.

And I think you're making the right decision about social media. The sheer volume of stuff that people share, put down as fact, and in many cases are downright aggressive is overwhelming. I have a look at the BBC once a day feel much better for it. And this thread is a godsend, especially the Henry the Bunny pics which keep me and DH going!

Bunnyflop · 26/04/2020 06:46

Here’s some pics of Henry playing in ds’ tent yesterday. He loves this massive tent and just goes in and out over and over, sometimes pushing up the flaps with his nose before running out.

Morning everyone. I hope you have a peaceful day filled with joy and sunshine.

It’s a bunny adventure playground 😂

foxessocks · 26/04/2020 08:26

Oh look at his little face!

Benji13 · 26/04/2020 09:57

Henry ❤️
We had a productive day yesterday in the garden and then a nice bbq dinner.

All was well until ds2 who is 23 and lives at home announced he was going to see his gf and sit in the garden with her and her mum. He has got this far without any issues but now clearly wants to see her. A row ensued with dh telling him quite clearly NO. He is now not speaking. I know it’s hard but we made the right call - yes?
After that hoo ha, i spotted Willow our young rescue cat trotting down the garden with a mouse of her mouth. I swiftly shut the back foot and she proceeded to eat it whole on the bloody patio. Worming tablet will be required from the vets methinks!

Anyhow it’s sunny here again and we will carry on in the garden today and enjoy a roast dinner. Sunday’s feel more normal don’t they. Keep on hanging in folks.

Noooblerooble · 26/04/2020 10:10

Morning! I never knew bunnies could make such great pets.

Benji it's such a hard one. Clearly many others are having the same thoughts and doing just what your son wants to. I really can't decide whether I'd be saying definitely not or whether if parties on all sides have been self-isolating, if I wouldn't just say 'go as long as you sit in the garden.' With that said the more people start drifting and breaking lockdown the more cases will rise so maybe it's just best to say definitely not. We will be out of lockdown in a few week's time.

I hope everyone has a good day. I am going to stay away from the news

Elloello and the other pps who said thank you - I’m glad my post helped.

I’m newlyish-diagnosed coeliac and have had a poorly couple of days - still learning the ropes and don’t always get the diet right. So I’ve been doing gentle pottering - weeding raised beds, watering seedlings, reading.

I’ve started a new knitting project too - a hot pink blanket for the grey sofa in my conservatory. Just the colour and the softness of the yarn is cheering me up! It’s the little things.

I get knitting kits from Wool and the Gang and they posted a free pattern, so I just had to buy the wool. I’ve learned how to do cable cast-on, so that’s another new skill lockdown has provided.

Bunnyflop · 26/04/2020 11:37

@pinkarsedfly ah, another knitter!! I finally learnt from YouTube two years ago which coincided with when my beloved grandma was dying. She had tried to teach me several times but I always got in a muddle. When she was in her final days I would take my knitting and sit next to her chatting, saying look grandma I finally learnt how to knit! She had no idea that I was talking to her I’m sure but it gave me comfort anyway. I always associate knitting with her and therefore it comforts me. I’ve been knitting squares for a big grey blanket for fookin’ ages- still working away on it.

I’m in awe of anyone who can knit, I’m a disaster area with knitting/sewing/crochet 🙈

Pinkarsedfly · 26/04/2020 11:49

I love it, Bunnyflop - it’s like meditation without the battle to stop my mind chattering. A book on audible or a podcast, needles and yarn and I’m off!

It’s about process rather than product though. It’s all scarves and blankets - though I did manage some Hearts for ICU, which turned out ok.

Pinkarsedfly · 26/04/2020 11:51

Millie2013 honestly, I get into some real muddles. I’m not very good at all - unlike my 81 year old mum who is currently whiling away the hours in her care home churning out baby hats for preemies. She can make about three a day and they’re gorgeous. And she has cataracts.

Go to Ravelry! It's yarn-porn, that site. www.ravelry.com/ and click on patterns takes you to more things to knit than is reasonable, and you can choose subsets of knitting to suit what you feel like.

I did try back at the end of March to put up a picture of the jumper what I knat, but the Mumsnet site refused to let me and I gave up. I finished that one on 11th, and I sent off for some wool for another project -- the same jumper in totally different colours and in wool instead of acrylic yarn, and it's going really well because of me having practised first. It's a bit of a wasted effort because I won't want to wear them until autumn, but it is keeping me busy.

I am better at knitting than my mother was: she was Good Plain Knitter and made us all jumpers and gloves and socks and scarves in one colour at a time, I am a Fancy Knitter and do stranded knitting and Aran sweaters and lacy tops and shawls. It's the only thing I do better than she did so I let myself be ever so slightly smug about it.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/04/2020 13:05

Damn. It's saying you have to sign in -- I think that may be because it recognises that I am a member. But it's worth joining anyway just for all the patterns.
