AIBU to think I'm in trouble if I have/get coronavirus?

I'm a single lone parent to an 18 month old. The last couple of hours I've felt headachey and feverish. Hoping it's just a common virus and not Covid. If it does end up being Covid, or I get it in the future and it's not a mild case... How will I cope with my son with me? When I've had viruses in the past my mum and dad have helped me out, but in this case they wouldn't be able to. Can anyone reassure me that I'll be able to manage?

Thanks everyone for the concern. I still have a temp and headache. Don't usually get headaches (haven't had one for as long as I can remember) - feeling very shit bit still hoping not Covid. Am looking in to testing. At least my son has no symptoms.

If you have no underlying health conditions you should be fine though possibly feel quite crap for a bit. If you’re really stuck for childcare then lay in supplies of easy snacks and stuff that doesn’t need cooking. And accept lots of tv/screen time. Hope you’re feeling ok

ANoiseAnnoys · 20/04/2020 10:45

Sounds shit Op - but chances are it isn’t covid and if it is you will be ok because you are otherwise young and healthy. Also - there was a thread on here yesterday about a woman who said she’d been very ill with it (single parent with a 9 yr old son) and she put a list of things that she felt helped her get over it, things like steaming over a bowl, drinking tons of water Etc so have a look for that.

Agree with poster that said if a member of my family or friends were in your situation and needed help with their young child I would take them in and take my chances. I don’t think anyone would leave a baby or young child with no one to look after them properly.

So don’t be afraid to ask for help if you feel you can’t manage to look after him properly. Flowers

Is there anyone who can drop a packed lunch around for him and you? When I had pneumonia I had friends dropping happy meals off bless them.

Thankfully I have a freezer full of frozen meals. Made lots of Dal and veggie meals and have lots of flour for bread so we're all good for food ☺️

@caradelvigna I had a horrible headache. I got a test done too still awaiting results, my kids and DH were fine if any consolation x

I’ve just spent two weeks suffering from what I think was cv. My partner was around the first week and not the second week (we had already isolated for 2 week previously as my daughter had been ill). It honestly wasn’t too bad. I felt rough but could always drag myself up to feed or change her (and then collapse back on the couch). Lots of tv obviously and get people to drop off meals if they are able. Or at least get as much easy prep food in as possible.

And I definitely had a headache at beginning. Felt like a horrible sinus one but no other sinus symptoms. Also had chest pain but no cough and lot of other odd symptoms.

MigginsMs · 20/04/2020 12:16

Your dad will have to self isolate if you get it so as long as he remains well he might be able to help with your son

GirlCalledJames · 20/04/2020 12:18

My SIL had it (was tested, because she doesn’t live in the UK) and all she had was a headache for 3 days and no sense of smell. She looked after her 3 kids alone throughout. So it could easily be ok!

Northernsoullover · 20/04/2020 19:52

I'm just popping back to see how you are. I hope it hasn't been too bad today.

DianaT1969 · 21/04/2020 20:05

Hoping you are OK.

caradelvigna · 21/04/2020 20:28

Thanks everyone. Temp has gone. Still feel awful. Head is still banging but I feel better than I did. Having a down day mentally but at least I am well enough to look after my son!
