Anyone had a refund from Ryanair

LetMeOutOfHere · 19/04/2020 14:50

Flight was cancelled and requested a refund which they have said they offer, still not received it. Anyone received their refund from Ryanair?

I got a voucher. To be honest, I'm happy with that. A lot of these airlines are going to go bust and I'd prefer to take a voucher that I definitely will use once flights are up and running again, if that can help the airline industry a bit. If they do go bust, then the days of cheap flying may be over and that'll affect me more than getting a voucher instead of cash when I'd be flying soon again anyway.

midnightstar66 · 22/04/2020 08:32

@Mlou32 I very likely won't use it. The trip i booked was a once off and would be difficult to coordinate again (let alone afford as I've lost a lot of other money through it that I'd saved for ages) Ryanair no longer fly the route that I used to use more regularly so the voucher is pretty useless to me

CodenameVillanelle · 22/04/2020 08:42

I may not use a voucher. I only booked this one flight with Ryanair and I prefer a different airline which I usually use as they have a better route. I'd have to choose Ryanair over the more convenient airline just to use the voucher.

AnneKipanki · 22/04/2020 08:44

H had email yesterday. Take voucher or wait until Corona all over for cash refund.

flowerstar19 · 22/04/2020 09:11

Just an update from here, turns out Jet2 did issue a full refund straight away, I had just forgotten we paid on our credit card. Also had the dreaded Ryanair refund voucher, but am pushing for a cash refund ASAP!!

goingtotown · 23/04/2020 19:23

Looks like they want to send an email voucher that lasts one year.
I’ve been trying for a refund for three days on their chat line that says to be patient their busy. I’m convinced they don’t want to refund.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 23/04/2020 19:31

Same here. Applied for cash refund, had 2 messages to say that they had received my application and that it would be processed (fine - not majorly in a rush for it) and then got this voucher a few days ago. I Asked for a refund and legally they have to provide this within 14 days. I was prepared to cut them some slack over the time period as it's obviously exceptional circumstances, but I do want a refund not a voucher!

midnightstar66 · 24/04/2020 08:22

The worst thing is how difficult they are making it to refuse the voucher. An online form like the refund form I already filled in, fine. As a pp has said I am prepared to wait given the circumstances but I do not want that voucher and I can't get through to tell them so.

CodenameVillanelle · 24/04/2020 08:55

I honestly think the best thing is to wait a couple of months and once flights start moving again they will start refunding. Trying to get through now is just a recipe for stress.

flowerstar19 · 24/04/2020 09:13

As I understand it they are in breach of EU regulations. Like everyone I was cutting them some slack but to promise in writing a cash refund in 7 days then 20 something days later give a refund voucher is unacceptable. Also how do we know the airline won't fold then all vouchers will be worthless?! My credit card company are now pursuing this for me. Will let you know how it goes!

Reearry · 24/04/2020 09:44

I applied for a refund. And after a month received vouchers on email

ItsAllForYou · 24/04/2020 14:20

I received an email today issuing a voucher refund. It does say a cash refund can be requested but will be put in a queue when covid-19 is over Shock

Has anyone accepted the vouchers. Realistically, when we will be able to travel on holiday again as vouchers are only valid for one year.

AnneKipanki · 27/04/2020 21:13

Has anyone heard anything more ?
How did contacting the credit card company go ?

CodenameVillanelle · 27/04/2020 21:16

My bank replied and asked me for more details. They may apply for a charge back but haven't confirmed that yet

AnneKipanki · 27/04/2020 21:29

Thanks @CodenameVillanelle

They cancelled my flights for 21st march n the 20th. refund requested have had 2 emails stating I am in queue for refund. still not received anything

CodenameVillanelle · 27/04/2020 21:59

They won't cancel the flights til the last minute

reesewithoutaspoon · 28/04/2020 21:26

Ye, they dont cancel till the final day or so. they will continue to send you reminders to check in online for your upcoming trip. but once you do that its really difficult to get refunds. They will also try to offer you changes of date . Basically anything but a refund

RosesandIris · 28/04/2020 21:57

Great. Apparently Ryanair has been been reported to the Aviation Authority for poor practice by Martin Lewis.

AnyFucker · 28/04/2020 22:08

I got an email cancelling my flight on 14th May yesterday.

Have filled in the form asking for a refund. I await.

feedmewinenow · 28/04/2020 22:16

Similar to the replies on here I had flights cancelled in March, requested refund and receive two emails apologising for the delay and then last week I received a credit voucher, but with no way to reject it and request a refund!
However, I put it a credit dispute with my credit card that I'd paid on (TSB) and they requested evidence I'd requested a refund from Ryanair etc and I received a refund from them! Emailed on Thursday with info and received the refund today from TSB- might be a quicker way for anyone waiting for a refund!

CodenameVillanelle · 28/04/2020 22:25

@feedmewinenow the small print of a chargeback is that the bank refunds you as a starting point then the company can challenge it, and if they can prove that they are entitled to the money then they will take it back off you! So be aware of that possibility

feedmewinenow · 28/04/2020 22:43

They did state that- I believe they have 45 days- However, they have to provide evidence that goods/ services were provided, which in this case they clearly weren't as in my initial correspondence from them, they agreed to refund within 20 days. (And never did) Hopefully the chargeback will remain as I can't see how they'd contest it. But definitely worth being aware of.
