How long can we carry on like this for?

Anyone else starting to wonder just how long we can carry on like this before everything irrevocably falls apart?

How will we ever recover as a country?

@Dinosauratemydaffodils Thanks

That's exactly how I felt - I had already tried so hard to overcome seeing myself as a victim and invested so much in being a survivor (childhood sexual abuse that had 'made' me vulnerable to adult sexual abuse) i wanted to think i was now invulnerable and I just couldn't cope with it all going wrong again. I wasn't just coping with the latest thing - it all came back and I was tortured by my own thoughts.

In-patient and out/patient psychiatric care and therapy enabled survival at my lowest points but only at the cost of being patholgised and over rides any access to even GP appointments 30 years later but it never really helped. I am trapped in victim hood by my medical record (which I am still not able to view in case it triggers me).

Self care is the only thing that has worked for me and is a daily routine and a constant practice.

woodchuck99 · 19/04/2020 18:53

So country pubs with large beer gardens might be okay. But most places no.

I probably wouldn't go to those places either because you don't know whether the person who has handled your glasses and cutlery is infected. Takeaways are okay because you can plate the food and then put it in the microwave.

Jourdain11 · 19/04/2020 18:55

@KeepOnKeepingOnAgainandAgain what, do you mean that you are not allowed to go to the GP? Shock That's awful!

alloutoffucks · 19/04/2020 19:01

@woodchuck99 Yes they would still be worrying and I would not go. But I can see more people tempted to go to these so they might be viable.

We will have to we havnt got a choice unless we want to walk into an invisible killer, blindly and risk thousands more on top of the terrible 16,000 deaths we already have 😔

Liketoshop · 19/04/2020 19:13

Nothing will ever be quite the same until there is a vaccine which takes a v long time to test etc. Cafes restaurants and bars will have to reduce the covers down to stop being too close which I'm all in favour of as hate being too close to others when dining out. If people stopped in and paid attention it would be much easier.
I work clinically in NHS and its also v trying, especially when people haven't done what was expected of them.

Take away places have remained pen as well because you can just let 1 customer in at a time or do click and collect.

It's not just customers - staff need the 2 metre distancing too unless they're from the same household. That's why some takeaways are still open (the kind where the owners/staff live together on the premises), but others have closed (where the staff aren't related or living together). Our village chip shop closed because the staff couldn't find a way of staying 2 metres apart due to the very narrow space behind the counter and tiny back-kitchen. Until social distancing is no longer needed (or the staff have been vaccinated or all tested positive as previously having covid), they won't be reopening.

user1497207191 · 19/04/2020 19:15

And yet supermarkets/food shops are open that haven't got enough space to enable 2m gap between customers and where they have the gap is often taken up with staff trying to restock and fools barging through

In a shop you can keep yourself 2 metres away from others by avoiding the busy aisles and keep looking around you so you can move away when someone is getting too close.

If you're sat in a cafe or restaurant, you're a sitting duck and can't do anything if someone chooses to brush past you or sneeze over your shoulder.

See the difference now?

EmpressoftheMundane · 19/04/2020 19:19

We still don’t have a vaccine for the common cold which is also a corona virus.

It’s possible that we will never have a vaccine.

MigginsMs · 19/04/2020 19:19

Takeaways are allowed to stay open because they aren’t places people hang around/gather. That’s what Boris said when he closed restaurants. My husband works in a restaurant and they aren’t planning to open until October at the earliest, and even then with social distancing for the foreseeable future. It is a big restaurant with a large kitchen so I can actually see it being doable, and it’s an institution here so fingers crossed it will be Ok. If it’s not he’ll just need to take redundancy and try and find something else, we’re lucky he’s got long service at least.

happyandsingle · 19/04/2020 19:21

Italy has stated bars/ restaraunts will remain closed until a vaccine has been found I think that will be the same here.

Noextremes2017 · 19/04/2020 19:25

Oh so bars and restaurants might remain closed forever then.

Better not mention that to the hundreds of thousands / millions employed in that industry......

alloutoffucks · 19/04/2020 19:26

@EmpressoftheMundane That is because the common cold is not one virus. It is multiple rhino viruses and would cost a fortune to come up with multiple vaccines. Given its mild symptoms there is no point.

Gwenhwyfar · 19/04/2020 19:26

"

I have honestly been in situations where it was not possible to move to avoid someone in the supermarket. However, getting food from the supermarket is essential so it's a risk we have to live with.

Noextremes2017 · 19/04/2020 19:27

How long do people imagine the Government might continue to pay people 80% of salary for doing nothing?

A year? 5 years?

alloutoffucks · 19/04/2020 19:28

@Noextremes2017 Catastrophising is not helpful, it is just scare mongering.

Jack80 · 19/04/2020 19:28

I think the government will extend again for another 3 weeks

alloutoffucks · 19/04/2020 19:30

@Gwenhwyfar I think that is the point. We try and maintain social distance in supermarkets. But buying food is not a choice. Going out for a meal is a choice and it would not be much fun if you were terrified anyone was going to come too near you. It is supposed to be a fun experience after all.

Parker231 · 19/04/2020 19:30

Furloughed scheme has been extended until the end of June. If large employers don’t get the certainty of it being extended further and they have more than 100 employees they would need to make redundant without the scheme, they have to start the legal redundancy consultation process 45 days before so mid May is the next cut off point for the government.

Noextremes2017 · 19/04/2020 19:37

I think Trump is a clown. But on Coronavirus he is partly right.

There comes a point when the huge damage that is being done by this current Government policy is, in all terms, worse than the virus itself (to the country as a whole).

Certain European countries are also starting to realize that and - as any sensible county should - they have an exit plan that they are starting to phase in.

Granted we are talking about countries that got their acts together on testing - unlike the UK. Countries where the politicians actually have a bit of credibility and don't hide behind their medical advisors.

happyandsingle · 19/04/2020 19:42

I would rather stay in lockdown than loose a loved one. If that means a few more months then so be it.

Danni8929 · 19/04/2020 19:43

It will end 22md June 2020 just after Father’s Day we were at peak now and will relax lockdown every 3 week till then , also kids will be back st school just before 6 week holidays Smile

Leontine · 19/04/2020 19:45

Honestly, the only things I can’t see getting back to normal for the foreseeable future, as in perhaps not for the rest of the year, are large organised social events like concerts/festivals and international travel for pleasure. I think even the theatres and cinemas could open on some level soon. Most films that have had their release delayed are now rescheduled for sometime in the autumn, so I think virtually everything will be back to normal by then.

I’m starting to think that once this additional 3 weeks are over, lockdown won’t be extended again. Italy’s restrictions have been relaxed and we’re not so far behind them.

Ultimately people are selfish and won’t put up with this for long, even if it means people die.

igr61 · 19/04/2020 19:48

We will still have to put up with this lot going on with their Vanity bookcase promotion...

How long can we carry on like this for?
Kim1010 · 19/04/2020 19:48

As long as it takes, really
Think you will find this only the beginning, ...think of it as a war, which we will eventually win! Sadly many won't still be with us.
