Anyone else starting to wonder just how long we can carry on like this before everything irrevocably falls apart?

How will we ever recover as a country?

@Hercwasonaroll LOL ! Of course she did....

Thisisitisit · 18/04/2020 21:21

No it is not going to magic it away it is helping to manage it and helping to protect our health workers by keeping the numbers at a manageable level

Yes, and as soon as things relax the numbers will rise again, therefore the only way to really keep the numbers managable is through either continuous lockdown or periods where it eases during 'quieter' times and then tightens again; even in that case it's unlikely they are going to put back together departments for treatment just for a month or so. Unless the end plan is to treat covid patients solely in places like NHS Nightingale which wouldn't work logistically, then that's a long time for treatments to be suspended. Which is scary.

RigaBalsam · 18/04/2020 21:21

He did nearly die @Hercwasonaroll

Boris even said himself it was touch and go. Are you called Boris a liar?

Wait!What?

BeijingBikini · 18/04/2020 21:22

Is it just me that things of that saxophone song when I think "touch and go"....

Tonemeth · 18/04/2020 21:23

Maybe the govt can try to persuade bigger shops like DIY stores and garden centres etc to reopen in the meantime.

Given the clarified info is you can repair a broken fence but not paint your kitchen, I don't think that's on the government's agenda.

MaxNormal · 18/04/2020 21:23

Boris even said himself it was touch and go. Are you called Boris a liar?

Grin it certainly wouldn't be the first time. Or untrue.

I’m so jealous people are living in places that look normal

Londoners are dealing with shit like this

You might be jealous now lilac, but like I said. I fear the consequences of what will happen in a few weeks time. The lockdown is honestly more or less over here for most people. I almost feel ashamed of where I come from ATM Blush

RigaBalsam · 18/04/2020 21:28

Flax I am in a market town in the North East. Here people are mainly following the rules except I see a lot if people sat on park benches.

I wonder if you live nearby.

Sunshine1239 · 18/04/2020 21:28

Lockdown will be over by summer

Businesses will all return after these 3 weeks with social distancing in place after that where possible

Vulnerable warned to stay isolated

Most other country’s are starting to return to some normality once peak is over

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/04/2020 21:32

I’ve given up on WHO

That may well be wise, at least from a western perspective
We all have different views on here, but at least those views seem on the whole to be sincere, rather than being bought and paid for

Otherrooms · 18/04/2020 21:33

I'm going to guess schools will be back after May half term. This coincides here with the end of the 12 week quarantine some people are under.

eveoha · 18/04/2020 21:34

Most of that ‘stuck’ in docks or wherever is shite from C h I n a - the cause of the whole tumult - BUY BRITISH Angry

Flaxmeadow · 18/04/2020 21:35

I wonder if you live nearby

I would have name changed but I dont know how, but I'm from one of these metropolitan counties in the north .

South Yorkshire/Greater Manchester/West Yorkshire

Another thing that's changed is that its getting more difficult to raise concerns with people, even when people talk about those going to pub lock ins. If you say anything, you get shunned or treated as if you're a spoil sport. The mood has changed so much

FoolsLemonTree · 18/04/2020 21:37

lightsoul support is available for them and those with mental health issues

Support for those with mental health issues is often unavailable at the best of times. Now we're in a situation where people with severe mental illnesses are having phone contact only - what support do you think there is for everyone else? Plenty of people like me have been left without treatment for years and absolutely rely on contact with others to scrape by, and being in isolation is extremely damaging.

Frankly I think it's about time this was recognised and people living alone should be able to see one or two other people.

BeijingBikini · 18/04/2020 21:37

Most of that ‘stuck’ in docks or wherever is shite from C h I n a - the cause of the whole tumult - BUY BRITISH angry

There is hardly anything British to buy because we hardly manufacture anything ourselves.

munchbunch12 · 18/04/2020 21:38

@BeijingBikini I've noticed you around, I find you very attractive...
I was thinking the same as you!

Sunshine1239 · 18/04/2020 21:38

I agree Flax

People agreed initially but already people are starting to tire

Boris was right to delay lockdown imo for this reason

We are already seeing people struggle and at the time of lockdown they predicted the peak a little later

After these next 3 weeks I think public opinion will favour coming out

Sunshine1239 · 18/04/2020 21:44

Just read online that Spain is already going to start letting kids out

I think we’re only two weeks behind Spain?

Flaxmeadow · 18/04/2020 21:44

Yes sunshine, I see what you mean but here its swung too far towards back to normal too quickly.

As if the attitude now is "oh well that was in the news a couple of weeks ago and it was all very strange, but now it doesn't matter anymore and it's back to normal again"

lightsoul · 18/04/2020 21:48

This is a pandemic and we have plans in place for this very eventuality. Lockdown is part of what is required to deal with this. It will come to an end but not just yet. It will take longer whilst people are not following the guidelines. If you want it to cause less damage you need to be asking everyone to keep to social distancing.

Sunshine1239 · 18/04/2020 21:50

Spain started going back to normal last week when deaths were still 500 per day

In another couple of weeks we will be over the peak

Mascotte · 18/04/2020 21:52

This can’t continue fir much longer. People can’t function without income. And they won’t put up with not seeing family ad Infinitum

RigaBalsam · 18/04/2020 21:54

Just read online that Spain is already going to start letting kids out

We never shut them in. That would be hard going but we are managing with the daily walk.

MaxNormal · 18/04/2020 21:57

Just read online that Spain is already going to start letting kids out

Still leaving them with a far stricter lockdown than us. Their children have literally not been outdoors for a month, well not the 70% of then who live in flats.
