Local pub open

In our village we have a few pubs I have to drive past one of them on my way to work or to the supermarket as does my DH. I had to work over the weekend (keyworker) and when I drove past on Sunday at about 1pm I noticed the doors all open and a chalk board propped outside saying something about ice creams and the car park full. Yesterday when my DH drove past at about 6pm it looked like it was open again with a full car park. I am really quite cross about this but do I just ignore and carry on as I am? It just seems that there are people constantly looking for loop holes to still carry on as normal.

Report it to the police.

Some pubs are proving takeaway meals OP, could it be that?

Pebbles574 · 15/04/2020 11:50

A pub local to us is (legitimately) open for collection of takeaway meals and collection of pre-ordered food boxes. Are you sure they aren't doing something similar?
Ice cream could be 1l family tubs to take away?

HoneyBee03 · 15/04/2020 13:00

I agree with above, probably open for takeaway. Especially if they're being so obvious about it.

Instead of posting a thread on here why don't you get your husband to stop and take a physical look then act on what he actually finds.

There are pubs near me apparently that haved opened for takeaway food and as we are near a hospital they are serving some NHS workers free.

MigginsMs · 15/04/2020 13:23

Maybe takeaway or food for the vulnerable

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/04/2020 13:27

A lot of pubs in my town are open for takeaway food and are selling off their alcohol stock.

Windyatthebeach · 15/04/2020 13:33

My ds is a chef in a pub - small village - they are legally providing locals with a hot meal and selling basic produce as also permitted (shop like)..

DeRigueurMortis · 15/04/2020 14:14

So my village pub is open and is providing a takeaway service.

They've been a lifesaver for many families who are self isolating and shielded members of the community - order/payment taken over the phone then village volunteers will deliver.

So lots of households getting boxes of family sized meals they can freeze.

In addition the village has raised funds so they are proving free "end of shift" meals to the 15 people in the village working for the NHS/Police/Fire service which they can just collect when they come back from work (it's put in their boot a bit like click and collect).

The village and pub websites have explained this but even so they've been reported a few times and some volunteers doing deliveries have had notes put on their cars.

All a bit demoralising for people actually trying to help the local community as opposed to those passive aggressively trying to "police" it.

Upshot is a bit of research doesn't go amis and don't jump to conclusions.

If someone has got time to write a note or log a call with the police they've also got the time to get their facts straight first.

Theres one near us doing take out food. They are known for the food and so put up the menu on facebook and take orders.
Last Friday they had fish and chips night, Thursday was Pizza night. It's very popular, but they limit the number of orders they take.
Every Sunday is a roast dinner and pud.

userxx · 15/04/2020 14:41

I had to work over the weekend (keyworker)

I have to work everday (not a keyworker)

Pubs are improvising where they can so they still have a business. Why are you "cross"?

Ariela · 15/04/2020 14:43

One near us is doing a set menu take away. You place order on the phone, drive there and park, ring them and when it's ready they come out and pop it in your open boot. When I last had their yummy takeaway there were 7 of us waiting in our cars and I was order no 54. I'd say at a guess they have about 25 tables? Plus outdoors tables, when as a pub/ So yes, pretty busy, but perhaps not as busy as when a pub.
