My son has a cough, how?!

So, my son 5 has a really bad cough for the last 2 days. It’s chesty and he has no other symptoms so I’m not concerned it’s cv at this moment. My question is how does he have a cough when we have been fully isolated for almost 4 weeks!? We are a high risk family due to dh having multiple health issues. We get all food delivered (washed items and son was not involved in any of the putting away of shopping) and have only left the house for permitted exercise roughly half the days permitted and kept a clear distance from the 1 person we might happen to see. (We go either early or late to avoid peak exercise times).

This does make me wonder about catching bugs, do you think some bugs just lie dormant and come out every now and again and we just assume it’s another cough going around?

I just can’t fathom how he would have caught a cough given we’ve been so careful!

There are many reasons for a cough other than infection. Nasal drip, hay-fever, allergies etc.

Also some viruses, like the seasonal RSV virus can lay dormant in your body for months

Yes, we all have some sort of cold here at the moment. Bizarre

I’ve got a cough at the moment, it’s hay fever. I get it every year.

Think about it how many people got coughs before coronavirus was around. Those same things exist now.

Could be allergies? From through the window or a bit of dust flying maybe.

My 4 year has a cough, but also has been stuffy at night and runny nose during the day.
I think hers is to do with hayfever or some sort of allergy as some days are worse then others and seem to conside with the weather.
I have been given her some antihistamine which has helped a bit.
She did also have a very high temp and cough that came and went over 4 weeks and was very poorly with it.
We have been isolating at home for nearly 5 weeks now.
