Anyone else had a shielding letter for no reason?

Had one come on the post for ds. According to the letter he is in the high risk group and extremely vulnerable so must be shielded. No idea why, he's very healthy, been to the doctor about 4 times in his life and no ongoing conditions. I'm assuming it's an admin error...

Presumably but would check with your GP tomo tbh. Might there be some risk factor you have overlooked? Like, my son was premie and poorly - he's now a ridiculously healthy toddler - but he'll always be more at risk of certain things bc of his birth. Or, is your son old enough to have disclosed something to a dr you are unaware of?

Due to the speed with which they were issued there are errors with the data - some people have had them that shouldn't have, and vice versa.
Check with your GP and if no reason to shield you can follow the guidelines for the general population

Yes, I will check with gp, but via email as don't want to clog up phone lines. No possible risk factors that I can think of, born at term, at home, weighing 9lb with no issues. Only 8 so not had any contact with hcp without us there, and only 4 or so contacts with us for general childhood illnesses. I know he's fine, but worry for others who may have received this letter in error and are panicking about it.

My son (17) had one. He has Crohn’s and was on a particular immunosuppressant which automatically generates the letter. Only ... he was only on it for two weeks & developed pancreatitis so they took him off it four weeks ago. I am pretty certain that when I check with the specialist nurse she will tell me that he is higher risk than typical and should observe scrupulous social distancing but not such high risk that he needs a letter - and that fits with what the Crohn’s and Colitis UK’s online tool is saying too.

I know someone with various health conditions but who was surprised to receive the shielding comma. GP eventually said admin error and shielding didn’t apply. In that case, it was back to being treated as ordinary “vulnerable”.
