Has anyone caught CV since lockdown started?

If so, do you think you caught it before lockdown and it just took some time for symptoms to arrive or do you think you caught it during the lockdown period?

If the latter do you have any hunches about how you caught it?

I realise this is all guesswork as no-one is being tested (unless hospitalised) and you would be guessing at the answer to these questions but I'm just interested (even in your guesses!)

I have - I must got it from the only place I’ve been - the supermarket. I put my hands in gloves, wiped the trolley handle with anticbac wipes, wiped my food afterwards with dettol spray BUT I didn’t wear a mask. Massively annoyed I’ve been taking all these precautions for weeks and I’ve bloody caught it anyway. Did you also catch it on lockdown?

I haven't caught it yet and am trying not to, I'm not leaving the house/garden at all except for an occasional walk. I don't have any underlying health issues but my BMI is 40 so although I would hope not to die (in my 30s, otherwise healthy) I'd really rather not get pneumonia.

I guess I was just generally wondering whether I can avoid it.

DH is a weak link though...he's not very careful and also (despite many discussions) goes to the shops several times a week instead of once.

A friend of mine caught it after the whole family self isolated for 2 weeks, she came down with symptoms 3 days after the 14 day period ended, where none of the family had left the house. She was confirmed by being taken in by ambulance and given a chest xray, she wasn't tested as she wasn't admitted, but they said short of carrying out the test they were as sure as they could be by the state of her lungs. She is now almost recovered though thankfully

Yes ! I'm 99.9% certain I've had symptoms, they all fit , but thankfully mild. Temp, headache, sore throat , aches, awful fatigue, cough and slight odd breathlessness. I'm wfh so either on one of two trips out , one where I was very careful , and one where I was in a crowded room ( could not avoid !) at the start of lockdown but I'm an HPC so may have picked up just before as symptoms can come out up to 20 or so days.

The lockdown is of course not total - we all have to food shop, key workers still have to do their jobs, etc. Someone coughing corona virus in the supermarket will spread an aerosol of infected droplets for two aisles, and you could be the unlucky person who walks through it before it slowly settles to the ground. The idea is to just cut social interaction by about three quarters, so each infected person passes it on to fewer people. If we can get that R number below 1, the epidemic will die out naturally. Even getting it below 2 will reduce the numbers presenting to hospital at any one time.

It’s thought the incubation period can be longer than the general two weeks.

My mum has what is likely coronavirus but she's a frontline NHS keyworker so it was to be expected.

I've not caught it, nor has DS and we go out every day for walks and I go to the supermarket twice a week. Unless we're asymptomatic of course.

You can lower your chances of getting it but I don't think anyone can avoid it completely, I've heard of people getting it that have completely self isolated.

My husband is a nurse and we’re pretty sure he brought the virus back from the hospital whilst dealing with a patient/patients not known to be Covid-19 positive. They were not allowed to use PPE for patients not known to have Covid-19 which we feel is disgraceful - all medical staff should be using PPE at all times with ALL patients. His last shift was on the 3rd of April and his symptoms began on the 4th (persistent cough, fever, extreme tiredness and loss of taste and smell) and he's had them on and off for 10 days - he's only just now improving. He tried to isolate as much as possible in a bedroom. My symptoms then started 4 days after his (initially fever and aching followed by extreme tiredness, nausea and a total loss of taste and smell which I'm finding very hard to deal will). I'm now on day 7 of symptoms and still not feeling great. Our 6 year old starting coughing 3 days ago and isn't very hungry today - I'm pretty sure she has it (despite our best efforts to distance ourselves and wear a mask/gloves in the house) but hopefully mildly as most children seem to. So far our 12 year old is OK but time will tell... It's all quite frankly very tough although nobody else I know has had it yet which I find surprising. I wonder if we'll start to notice more and more soon as my family in France say that about 3 weeks into lockdown, they had more and more reports of friends and family who have it. I really hope you don't get it as from my experience it's a nasty virus and it seems we may have got off lightly....

I’m a nurse but annoyingly I probably caught it from DH who developed symptoms a week before me. We both travel on the tube for work so constant exposure.

@wheresmymojo don’t worry too much - I think the only way to completely remove any chance of it is for nobody in the house to go shopping and only go for daily exercise but how to get shopping when delivery slots are gold dust?! I do wonder if there is a longer incubation period than they think - who knows. I also have a high BMI and mid-thirties and although unpleasant, I hope your symptoms wouldn’t be too severe if you did catch it. Wish you well x

As no-one is tested outside hospitals it is impossible to say who has caught it. Only a tiny percentage of those who catch it are sick enough to be admitted to hospital. Probably most of us have had it by now.

If 5% = 10,000 deaths

Then 80% = c. another 150,000 deaths.

I'll take a look at the Imperial paper, I'd be interested to see how they estimate it, etc.

DH only showing symptoms this week and he has not been in contact with anyone other than me other than shops /people passing in the street.
However, virtually everyone at our sports club had had it with varying degrees of severity, and I probably had it end of Feb- so certainly among people we know (London) vastly more than 4% -more like 80%. No hospitalisation should or deaths.
I think when people can be tested the mortality rate will be infinitesimal compared to what is being pushed down our throats now to keep the s indoors.
