Tonight. fairly rapidly I’ve wilted like a daisy in a blender. Temp of 39, after paracetamol, knackered, weak, dizzy. But combined with my sore hard red boob, sore yesterday and redness etc today (breastfeeding and pumping but had a manic few days) I’m like 99% sure it’s mastitis.

But I know if you have a temp you’ve not to go to the gp, stay at home for 14 for all of us etc. So how in the name of buggery do I get antibiotics if dp isn’t allowed out? Granny’s locally are in the shielding group and the other is 75 miles away. I obviously want no contact with covid nurses etc as babies only 1 month old and his brothers 1 year old.. and I’m asthmatic but compared to a baby in that situation id rather me than them.

Do I just ring tomorrow and insist it’s mastitis before it’s an access? I’m keeping feeding/compresses and paracetamol at the mo can’t think of anything else.

Do you mean if DP has to self-isolate due to quarantine (because your symptoms will be assumed to be coronavirus?) I think you should just phone your GP and ask what they can do. If the worst comes to the worst and you are asked to self-isolate, is there a community group in your area who might be able to bring you the ABs? Be careful with the mastitis btw as it can get nasty and that's quite a high temperature. Have you had it before and do you know ways that you can try to manage/improve it at home?

Ring your GP. Lots of them doing phone or video consults now do you should be able to access a prescription if needed. They may email/fax it to your local pharmacy who may well have some measures in place too so that your DP can collect with minimal contact.

Nope I’ve not had it before but by the looks of it that’s what’s wrong. Any tips are welcome too.

Obviously it’ll be the morning before I can get through to them now. For now me and tiny have taken to the couch with an open bar to help him empty me out as much as possible.

I would phone 111 now for mastitis. It needs antibiotics promptly. You should still be able to get treated for this despite the covid situation. Scripts will probably be sent electronically to a pharmacy for you/partner to collect the meds from.

I had a video consultation with GP today which was very helpful.

Please phone 111, there are many ways of dealing with this. The G.P or nurse will do a telephone or video consult and if you need to be seen there are “ cold sites “ covid free sites that you can be directed to . Please don’t wait until the morning .

DS age 6 had a rash for six weeks which was getting worse. We originally thought it was eczema but it didn’t respond to treatment. Had a telephone consultation with GP last week and they sent a text to which I had to attach a photo of rash and send back. Doctor called me back within 30 mins of receiving photo, diagnosed moluscum contagium over phone and prescribed steroid cream for DS which my DH picked up from pharmacy (surgery has its own pharmacy) later that day. It’s usually a nightmare getting an appointment at my surgery and this is the most efficient they have ever been!

We wouldn’t be able to get to out of hours if they wanted me up and chemists are closed now here too, so really anything that needs picked up/faxed over won’t be there till after 9am at the earliest.

Our out of hours is next to (no joke take the next turn) the COVID test centre n I definitely can’t walk 25miles. We don’t drive, assuming 111 won’t be able to do anything other than a script and the advice on nhs site

I know they’re on the ball with phone consults usually, well with children.. ds1 is the boy of allergies and rashes. Usually can get a steroid over the phone easily. HV is due to call me (phone) tomorrow too so she’ll probably have other advice too.

I had mastitis 16 years ago and I still shudder at the memory. Definitely call your gp, an antibiotic is probably needed

Phone 111. There must be a way to get help before tomorrow morning. But keep persuading your baby to feed and pump as much as possible.

I rang the gp with mastitis a few weeks ago. Not told to self isolate
They diagnosed mastitis over the phone and just told me to pick up the antibiotics from the local pharmacy.

I’ve had mastitis twice but both times it cleared up in 24 hours - lots of feeding & massaging. It can go downhill quickly so do keep an eye on it & call the Gp in the morning.

I know you said you don’t want to go to an out of hours clinic but they may well still prescribe antibiotics over the phone. DH is a GP and is doing his first emergency fill in out of hours shift this evening!

At my surgery, they are calling you back and triaging over the phone. If GP thinks s/he needs to see you then they are seeing you. ( That's what the receptionist told me) not sure if the GPs are using PPE though.

Alternate massaging (in a warm shower if possible) with feeding. I found dangle feeding really helped too, as well as feeding in different positions/holds.

You might be able to get antibiotics over the phone and our local out of hours know which pharmacies are 24 hours (normally one boots I’m each area). If you can’t get them there may be a local volunteer who would.

There’s no 24hour chemists, doubled checked again. The latest opening one was 7pm 20 miles away.. nearest actually doesn’t open to 10am, so I’ll have two hours for the gp to fax a prescription through. Paracetamol now working better temps broken. Obviously if I’m crawling like I’m dying overnight I’d be all for 111 if I needed to be seen/they could do anything
