Milton tablets

Is anyone else finding it impossible to get hold of these at the moment? None in Boots, Wilkos, the supermarkets (obviously I’m not able to check that regularly as not going out just on the off chance that they have them). Also completely sold out online. Amazon have them... selling £1.50 boxes of tablets for £8 Angry

I’m not quite sure why you would buy these if you don’t have baby bottles and a Milton steriliser though - why would you use them just for regular washing etc? Am I missing something?

Ugh. People are crazy. I think I have some at that back of my cupboard. If you’re near Southampton you are welcome to them!

HeyDuggeewhatchadoin · 13/04/2020 17:51

I could use some for sanitising nappies but this doesn't explain why they're out of stock. I've been using other things as I can't get any.
I think people are trying to sanitise washing against coronavirus, which a normal washing powder would do anyway.

GivenchyDahhling · 13/04/2020 17:53

Thank you, that’s v. kind @DownWhichOfLate - it’s fine, I use the Mam bottles which I can sterilise in the microwave so it’s not in the grand scheme of things a big deal, just a minor inconvenience - I just don’t understand what people are doing with them, I’ve not seen them on the shelves for about six weeks now!

I love Milton and always keep a bottle of fluid (hate the tablets as found they took ages to dissolve properly), spray and hand gel in.

ofwarren · 13/04/2020 17:56

People are probably buying it to sanitise their groceries. It's a bleach solution is it not?

sleepingpup · 13/04/2020 17:57

i clean sports water bottles with them.

supadupapupascupa · 13/04/2020 17:59

Ocado have them. Dh got some thurs for sterilising his beer making stuff ready for the next batch

Zoflorabore · 13/04/2020 17:59

Asda always seem to have them. I think people are panic buying cleaning products too though op and are not thinking that some people actually need sterilising tablets to er... sterilise. Some use them to clean cups and cutlery etc.

TheGreatWave · 13/04/2020 18:00

I guess people are washing food and such like with it. Much better than bleach.

GivenchyDahhling · 13/04/2020 18:03

I suppose I wouldn’t even think about using it for food because I see it as a baby product - I had never heard of Milton or these products before DS was born; I hadn’t even really thought about things like bottles even needing sterilising. So maybe a bit of ignorance on my part. But I’m not sure (in terms of Coronavirus) what a Milton tablet can do to kill a virus that hot water and washing up liquid doesn’t do (prepared to be corrected on that).

I've always used it for cleaning because I love the smell of it.

480Widdio · 13/04/2020 18:56

I have used Milton for years, prefer it to bleach.

Use it for cups, cleaning kitchen surfaces. My son used it when he was doing home brewing.

Crimsonnightlotus · 13/04/2020 19:01

I use them to clean the water bottles. Though we haven't bought recently since school is out and we don't need any.

Sammy867 · 13/04/2020 19:12

I use it to clean sports bottles and such.
My gran uses it to sterilise her denture.

I also still have a cold water steriliser off when DD was a baby. It got converted into the sick bucket. Stuff is stored in there for when people are ill like tissues, sterilising tablets, alcohol gel, paracetamol, diarolyte etc. and when someone is ill we just unscrew the lid off, take the stuff out to use and if someone has been sick in it it you can screw the lid on so you can transport it to the bathroom safely, it can be emptied then sterilised before putting back away.
Bit strange but it makes me feel better everything is cleaned properly and has a place to live.
