How do I take myself off the vulnerable list?

I've just had an emergency food box delivered to my front door, and I don't need it.

Last week I was put on the shielding list because of a rare health condition that it turns out they included everyone who's ever had it, it was a very worrying 48 hours during which I honestly thought I was going to be shielding for at least 12 weeks, I was put in the highest risk category. I came home from work, told my boss, sent him a copy of the NHS letter and registered online as someone who has to shield to try to get an online food delivery slot.

In the meantime I paid for a private telephone consultation with my old consultant from 8 years ago and he assured me I'm low risk and don't need to shield. Great news, I told my boss who was over the moon and I'll be back to work tomorrow but then this morning I get the emergency food parcel, I've tried to unregister but it's impossible, any advice

I would have thought your GP - doesn’t the list come from them?

MissSmiley · 13/04/2020 08:05

I've let them know what the consultant said via email as requested but I probably need to speak to them

What shall I do with it?

Try and find out who runs the NHS volunteers thing in your area? It's you registering that triggered the food box. Is there any email from them? Your GP prob won't know. Don't worry about it though, you just did as you were told and can use or donate the food.

You can go online to the web address on the letter you got and tell them you don’t need additional help at the moment.

MissSmiley · 13/04/2020 08:15

Thanks, there is a letter with it, I can't use most of the food anyway because I'm coeliac and it's normal bread and pasta so I'll need to give it away

I have a feeling I may have the same (rare coeliac-related) condition. I also went through this, letter, food parcel (also unsuitable for me). I spoke with the specialist nurse and it is because I am taking a 2 drug immunosuppressant treatment long term. I left my box in a neighbours porch.

You only get the food parcels if you register as needing food support on the hub.

You can go back in to the hub and amend your settings, and that should stop them.

I suspect you hit the wrong button by accident, as there is a dietary requirements tab within food support which includes gluten free.

MissSmiley · 13/04/2020 08:48

@5H1T I don't mind sharing, my condition is acute pulmonary sarcoidosis

I definitely clicked special diet but went back in to unregister and it's impossible

@nether what's the hub? I did it on the gov website to try to get a delivery slot

MigginsMs · 13/04/2020 08:52

If it’s just the food parcel can you take it to a food bank?

nether · 13/04/2020 08:56

The hub is a way of referring to the government website.

You can reregister (start again from scratch) which should supercede your original choices.

AFAIK, unless they have added a new tab under food support, there is no obvious way to link to supermarkets (from what you say, it sounds as if there isn't).

So no I don't know how that interface works, but perhaps someine who does will see this thread and explain in words of one syllable what the shielded persin needs to do to get delivery slots without getting food parcels!

5H1T · 13/04/2020 09:19

5H1T I don't mind sharing I came back to report my post as, in hindsight, it was wrong of me to guess and possibly upset you. I'm sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable.

I'm so pleased for you that you're not in the shielding group and can get back to work. I wouldnt wish this on anyone.

5H1T · 13/04/2020 09:24

nether the supermarkets are sent details of those shielding by the government hub. They will contact you directly. Unfortunately, it is taking time to get through all those who need this help. I had contact from waitrose, Tesco, Morriston, Asda and I can't recall the 5th. Thankfully I already had a recurring slot with my normal supermarket.

Interested to hear this about sarcoidosis as we also have a family member with it, they are older however and quite breathless anyway. Maybe it depends on the age / stage (shielding)

MissSmiley · 13/04/2020 11:02

@Orangeblosson78
You can look to SarcoidosisUK for guidance, but as far as I know they have put everyone one the shielding list as the safest measure although some people are low risk, and they'll be advised later, it was too complicated from an IT point of view to make personalised decisions at this stage

@5H1T you definitely didn't upset me, now I'm wondering what your coeliac related condition is

I sent you a PM.
