Wtf. Mummy, mummy I can smell burning! Mummy hunts up inhaler as already recovering from possible COVID-19 and has had a bad chest for 5 weeks now and this explains the renewed tightness. Who the fuck has a bbq at 10am on Easter Sunday?

We cook breakfast on our BBQ. We also do our roast on the BBQ. In fact our BBQ is used every week at least once.

WorraLiberty · 12/04/2020 13:20

I have a lot of Eastern European neighbours in various houses surrounding my garden. Nearly all of them have purpose built masonry barbecues and all year round they bbq probably the majority of their meals and it doesn't seem to bother any of us.

However, the style probably makes a difference as they have chimneys at the top and don't create too much smoke.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 12/04/2020 13:22

@TellySavalashairbrush I've never had a BBQ like that and I'm definitely British! The only time I've been served pink chicken was in a restaurant on holiday in the US and was told that's how it should look!

donquixotedelamancha · 12/04/2020 13:24

We are vegetarian.

Have considered going vegan, OP? I reckon you'd be a brilliant vegan.

Pooshweens · 12/04/2020 13:24

YABVU - what's the problem with a bbq at any time of daytime

Beansandcoffee · 12/04/2020 13:26

I Barbequed my bacon this morning - it was delicious. Tomorrow I’m going to add sausages.

alphasox · 12/04/2020 13:36

My DS’s scout group had a virtual camp last night, they all camped in their respective gardens, the leader sent challenges via Twitter and they had a group ‘campfire’ and sing on Zoom. when he woke this morning OH put the bbq on for him and let him do bacon and eggs outside, to give him the full camp experience. DS was beyond thrilled and said it was like being on holiday. It really cheered him up after watching his dad and me being really very unwell with Covid symptoms for the last month.

Don’t be such a misery!

SistemaAddict · 12/04/2020 13:40

Oh I'm sorry my asthma is making me unreasonable Hmm Yes, my right to breathe easily is less important than the neighbour's right to fill my house with fumes. From the smell they used accelerant. But not to worry, I'm just being the Easter equivalent of Scrooge.

I think you're being a bit of a killjoy OP. We've all been asked to stay at home and that's what they're doing. Having a barbecue in their garden during a sunny bank holiday weekend isn't unreasonable behaviour by any stretch of the imagination.

Cranb0rne · 12/04/2020 14:15

My neighbours have been burning piles and piles of rubbish every day for the past week. The smoke stings our eyes and our clothes stink.

LittleAndOften · 12/04/2020 14:20

Depends on the type of bbq. We do breakfast bbqs on our gas one as it has a griddle and the only smoke comes from the food.
Different kettle of fish with charcoal as the smoke is going to affect the neighbours. I wouldn't bbq on charcoal right now after all the council notices about bonfires and breathing difficulties.

Kittykat93 · 12/04/2020 14:21

Jesus christ a shit load of threads about selfish fuckers breaking lockdown rules (which is fair enough)! But now threads slagging off neighbours for having a quiet bbq in their own garden? I'm asthmatic, but really op, get a grip.

corabel · 12/04/2020 14:30

I'd much rather the family next door were at home having a barbecue rather than going out for the day, which is what they appear to have done.

donquixotedelamancha · 12/04/2020 14:36

Oh I'm sorry my asthma is making me unreasonable

I have asthma and I'm perfectly reasonable.

But not to worry, I'm just being the Easter equivalent of Scrooge.

I don't think Scrooge minded other people burning coal, his objection was that he was paying for it. I picture you more as Margot from The Good Life.

Floatyboat · 12/04/2020 14:53

Quick tip. I cooked celeriac "steaks" on the BBQ the other day. Fairly edible actually. Marinated in honey mustard first.

PepePig · 12/04/2020 15:17

Another boring, pointless thread with an overly entitled, nosey poster who happens to "have" x ailments and as a result is the most important person on the planet. Yawn.

devildeepbluesea · 12/04/2020 15:19

What @Pepepig said.

Jesus Christ there are some miserable fuckers in MN.

Milky77 · 12/04/2020 15:22

I'm asthmatic and I have a charcoal bbq. This is perfect weather for having a bbq. All my neighbours have them too.

Milky77 · 12/04/2020 15:23

Cooked English breakfast on the bbq is an inspired idea. Know what I'll be doing tomorrow morning. Thanks for the idea, OP

mumwon · 12/04/2020 15:43

bbq I don't mind, bonfires however because apparently you need to burn wood from your diy on your house & as the tips are shut.... blinking well get a skip & burn garden rubbish is you must when it is dusk not all blinking day & its against the advice from the fire service because they are helping out with the NHS However warn your neighbours especially if they have a small garden that's only fair if you want to do a bbq

Portulaca · 12/04/2020 16:01

There was a huge row on our local fb group about people lighting bonfires. There were several yesterday afternoon & evening. People were defending their right to have them despite the Council asking people not to have them because of people with breathing difficulties.

There are some really selfish entitled twats in our village who don't give a shit about anyone else.

Oxyiz · 12/04/2020 16:04

Funny how everyone is always desperate for the right to do whatever they want, but never give a shit about what others might want. And those others are always the killjoys - it doesn't matter that the person is killing their joy to begin with (so to speak).

Fresh air is one of those things you'd hope wouldn't be something you'd have to fight for, but there you go.

Daily BBQs for all!

mumwon · 12/04/2020 16:16

Crikey @Portulaca are you sure you don't live near me! (& I wouldn't dream of standing up for my lungs)

Portulaca · 12/04/2020 16:42

Grin @mumwon Maybe we do, but I imagine it's a fight that's being fought all over the country right now. I'm afraid I just roll my eyes at their stupidity and selfishness. It may, one day, come back to bite them on the arse Grin

HopefullyAnonymous · 12/04/2020 16:44

Gosh all the fun sponges are becoming so tedious now. Loads of our neighbours have had BBQs, I’m grumpy only because ours needs a clean and I’ve not managed to persuade DH to DP it yet!!

The worst thing about lockdown for me is the competitive martyrdom of it all - and abuse aimed at anyone deemed to be enjoying themselves even slightly.
