The people who’ve Had It but been actually TESTED

Can we hear from those who’ve actually had it but as TESTED and confirmed cases? There’s a whole lot of ‘might have’ ‘think i have’ ‘potentially’ ‘sure I have’ and the only absolutely confirmed cases we hear are terrifying news stories and death counts which I expect is really impacting people’s fear of it. I don’t really think there’s much in the accounts of people who ‘think’ they’ve had it because so many symptoms are possibly explained by colds, tonsillitis, hay fever, migraines and.... anxiety (SO many symptoms people are having that they are completely convinced are Covid are very very similar to pure anxiety, understandably) I even think a lot of doctors and 111 calls are diagnosing based on symptoms , when it can so easily be something more mundane.

. It’s making me so fearful that maybe there is no ‘mild’ or ‘asymptotic’ to this at all. Just the horror stories. Although I am aware that’s completely irrational and incorrect.

I understand that it’s because so little testing is happening but I would so love to hear accounts from those who have actually been TESTED and know they’ve had it. Would anyone who knows they’ve had it (and by knows, I mean diagnosed with an actual test) care to share?

Sorry that was miswording on my part perhaps. I did mean that it sounded like your mum had also had it but been tested too late to show it so the negative test was false.

That’s so frustrating, particularly now if she’s too nervous to have her treatment in fear of catching something she’s possibly developed antibodies to now (if that transpires as relevant to covid)
Has your dad recovered at all? I hope he is on the mend. X

I liked this thread so much I thought I'd revive it for anyone who wants to share their story.

Bimbleboo · 30/04/2020 13:29

@Layladylay234 thank you me too! Hopefully now that more testing is being done, more people might respond.

I like this thread too x

Yes, be good to get a picture now that testing is finally being rolled out a bit more.

I'd be interested to know if there's anyone who would have sworn they'd had Covid that has since tested negative, with these 100,000 tests a day we're all imagining.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/04/2020 19:56

If someone has had it in the past but doesn't have it at the time they are tested any negative result they get will be meaningless; a false negative.

Until there is a reliable antibody test, historical cases will not be discovered. And they are what I am waiting for: I suspect that when they are finally available a lot of people will discover they are probably now safe.

itsgettingweird · 30/04/2020 22:12

Not tested but as a keyworker would be now.

However ds consultant rang and he had had it and was tested positive. I described my symptoms, pattern recovery etc and he said it was exactly what all tested people followed but actually they'd had it lesser than what I was describing.

I'm hoping as a keyworker (school) when anti body testing is rolled out I can get in one of the bunches of tests. They can test through blood without this pin prick one. Mostly as well because if this was instead just a severe URT infection I need to know I'm still high risk. Special school so social distancing not even possible!

itsgettingweird · 30/04/2020 22:29

Ginger off point but I smoked until I was ill. I was that bad it scared the crap out of me enough to quit! I use the lozengers from sainburies. 4mg, pack of 72 for £7.
Keep the pack on your bedside. Suck one as soon as you wake up and stay in bed as it dissolves. Then near the end take a tea/coffee back to bed and drink there. When you get up properly you've already had your a caffeine and nicotine hit. Well that's what worked for me anyway!

Layladylay234 · 04/05/2020 18:03

Just bumping this. I had the test today after a couple of days of symptoms. Wanted to get it done asap as I know it's most effective in the first 3 days, today was my second. Quite concerned I didn't do the test right cos I did it myself but we'll see. I'll let you guys know.

Bimbleboo · 04/05/2020 18:48

Was it easy enough to access one? I don’t need one I’m just curious about whether they’ve made them more accessible for those who do need one x

I had a test on Saturday. Got the results today. It came back as " Not Clear" so still don't know and as I had such mild symptoms unlikely another test would give me any clearer a picture.

Flatwhite32 · 04/05/2020 19:23

@Everytimeref How did you get the results? Was it via text?

Bimbleboo · 04/05/2020 20:14

@Everytimeref oh god I didn’t even know people could get a ‘maybe’ result. That must be so frustrating!!! You poor thing :(. You’ll be wanting to know either way

OP posts:
Everytimeref · 04/05/2020 20:31

@Flatwhite32 a text message

@Bimbleboo. Neither did I until I got the text message.

Think its the worst of both worlds. Have I had it so need to worry about my contacts or haven't I had so I am sat at home for nothing.

Layladylay234 · 04/05/2020 20:36

Oooh that's annoying. Yes, very easy to get a test. Have a look on the site yourself. You can be referred by 111 as well now I believe. You can also add people from your household to your booking. It wasn't busy at all which makes me wonder why they're not just testing as many people as possible, even asymptomatic.

BunsyGirl · 04/05/2020 20:46

OP, a number of children and parents at my DC’s school were confirmed cases before lockdown. There were no deaths and I am not aware of anyone needing hospital treatment. I strongly believe that I have had the virus - my GP practice agreed but I didn’t fit the criteria for testing at the time. My DH and oldest DS (age 9) had mild symptoms, my youngest DS had no symptoms. I was ill for over six weeks but I have asthma and my breathing deteriorated. I continued to work throughout, despite feeling like shit. The company I work for also had a number of confirmed cases but, again, no deaths or hospitalisation. Most people continued to work whilst ill, albeit from home.

Flatwhite32 · 05/05/2020 08:08

Thanks @Everytimeref
Got a family member waiting on results (doesn't live with us). She went on Sat but hasn't heard anything yet! Only symptom is persistent fever.

HollysBush · 05/05/2020 10:05

I tested positive on day 2 of symptoms ( but I’d felt warm and tired for 4 days before that).
Awful fever and chills, managed with paracetamol and cold compress on forehead. Exhausted and stayed in bed for 4 days (got up for toilet). Headache and joint pains, nausea, diarrhoea, very mild cough and shortness of breath. Managed to spend a few hours on the sofa days 7-9.
No need for hospital at all, so I guess I had a mild case! My dh at the same time had some tiredness, joint pain and chest tightness so he’s had a mild, mild case?

Flatwhite32 · 05/05/2020 11:01

@hollysbush Still sounds unpleasant! How long did you have to wait for results?

Everytimeref · 05/05/2020 13:24

@Flatwhite32. It did say it could take up to 5 days for results.

Unfortunately though have heard that some results fail to arrive at all.

I was offered another test but haven't any symptoms now so most likely would be negative and I still won't know. Decided that I am going to assume haven't had it and will isolated again if I come into contact again and have another test then.

Siameasy · 05/05/2020 13:53

I find this useful and I was one who found the people popping up “with it” just unhelpful. I’m just a black and white person in that way.
All I can say is a work colleague tested positive due to contact with a confirmed case (we are front line) and very very mild symptoms like a cold

iamapixie · 05/05/2020 14:31

2 key worker friends tested, 1 due to a cough - test came back negative; 1 due to a fever - positive; says felt a bit like flu for a few days, but recovering and no issues. 2 neighbours tested: 1 positive but asymptomatic; 1 spent a night in hospital with breathing difficulties (not ventilated, just oxygen) then home; recovered and back working within 7 days.
Obviously at the beginning, before the media message changed, there were plenty of good health outcomes: Prince Charles, Nadine Dorries and her elderly mum, a couple of other politicians, various footballers and other 'stars' (sorry I don't follow sleb stuff); many of the passengers on the Diamond Princess (despite age).
And it is concerning how much anxiety can affect physical health outcomes. One of my relatives was hospitalised (pre Covid) on numerous occasions for what turned out to be disordered breathing pattern: had always suffered from anxiety; over the years developed poor breathing techniques, which leads to more anxiety and becomes a vicious circle. I had no idea before that this could be a 'thing' but apparently it's very common; and I suspect will become more common now.

Sicktiredanddown · 05/05/2020 16:26

I tested positive yesterday. My symptoms started on Wednesday/Thursday. I’ve felt like I’ve had the flu, with a cough but no temperature.

My husband had very, very mild cold like symptoms a couple of weeks ago, which developed into an occasional cough then loss of taste and smell... which we actually thought was hay fever or a cold, he did take 10 days off work but it seems it was the virus as soon after our son developed a temperature and I started to feel as though I was developing a cold. DS recovered completely within a day.

I must admit I’m struggling with feeling slightly guilty or negligent that we’ve all managed to get it, as if people maybe thinking we’ve not properly observed the lock down rules. My husband is a key worker so apart from him going to work and weekly trips to Sainsbury’s- we’ve not been anywhere. Probably not thinking clearly at the moment, but has anyone else had those kinds of thoughts.

Calyx72 · 05/05/2020 20:32

@Sicktiredanddown
I have had it (tested positive, Hospital but no O2, bilateral pneumonia) and we think my fiancé had it back in March.
I totally have those thoughts. I am a key worker in NHS and thought I had been following the hygiene rules really well in and out of work. I also wonder what others are thinking (but when I reality check myself on it, don't think people are blaming us).
