Is anyone else really, really struggling without a garden :(

I just can't bear to be indoors when the weather's so lovely, and every time someone tells me about their lovely barbecue or sitting out sunbathing it makes me want to cry. I'm really struggling. I'm just sitting indoors feeling hot and upset. I can't wait for this to be over.

OP posts:
Hormonecrazyhell · 11/04/2020 16:16

It’s not all it’s cracked up to be, I’ve spend all morning cutting grass & weeding, then the indoor chores & now I’m ready for a shower and bed, mine is all work and no enjoyment

thatgingergirl · 11/04/2020 16:18

Thank you UnrulySalvia - DD would say I was being daft. Sitting in the sun isn't something I do lots of anyway (see username!), but I just so felt for her!

If anyone dares question your little sit downs, use whatever bump you have to shame them! Enjoy your pregnancy!

HelloViroids · 11/04/2020 16:19

@UnrulySalvia am also pregnant with a lot of pelvic pain (poss SPD) and like @ChristmasCarcass am in Lambeth - all the benches are taped off and have signs to prevent and discourage loitering. I went to Brockwell Park and on the way back had to pause and lean against a wall for a minute or two because the pain in my hips was so bad - did it far away from everyone of course but was still nervous about getting reprimanded!

midnightstar66 · 11/04/2020 16:20

Yoga can be done at home after going for a walk. I don't make the rules I'm only communicating them. They want you to go out, do what's absolutely essential then go home

Seventyone72seventy3 · 11/04/2020 16:23

I understand OP. No garden here and we're not allowed out to exercise. We do have a little strip of concrete in front of the garages but it's pretty boring. Neighbours have a huge garden. Not jealousat all

Gwenhwyfar · 11/04/2020 16:23

"Standing outside to check the weather obviously doesn’t count as going outside for your daily exercise hmm"

I explained it in another post. Have a look.

ChristmasCarcass · 11/04/2020 16:23

Bizawit it is so hard with a toddler isn’t it? I would love DS to ride his bike with me while I do my 5k run, but he has just turned three and realistically they do not have the focus to do that at his age. He needs to exercise through play, and unfortunately some of the time he is stationary.

Lalala205 · 11/04/2020 16:26

Crikey! The megaphone volunteers sound horrendous! Are you in a block of flats? Is there anywhere you can sit outside on a chair and read a book or something?

Amymayapple · 11/04/2020 16:28

@ChristmasCarcass can I ask you, is it police moving people on, or other people acting as community volunteers?

I can't believe that some one told you off for stopping to take a drink of water.

It might be good to keep a diary in these times of what is going on, because people on other countries don't know. I think that it might be very important later.

In Ireland , I have seen one police man ask a big group of people to break up. Currently people who are alone, are not being challenged at all in parks. In my medium sized town in the south coast of Ireland

ChristmasCarcass · 11/04/2020 16:31

But midnight those aren’t the rules. You are allowed out for exercise, the law doesn’t specify what. Why can’t people do circuits, or an exercise video on their phone, or whatever else they want to do, if they are well away from the nearest other person?

I am a runner, and I can tell you it was far harder to observe social distancing for me on the perimeter path that it was for the guy working out on his own in the middle of the otherwise-empty football pitch. But guess who had a deputation march over and tell him to leave?

Oly4 · 11/04/2020 16:31

The reason sitting under trees and sunbathing is not allowed is because if everyone did it, before long you’d have parks full of people sat down, having picnics etc. One person on their own is fine with no risk, but if everyone stops and sits down, there is your problem

ChristmasCarcass · 11/04/2020 16:32

Amy they are council workers, in normal clothes but Lambeth hivi vests. Police are patrolling the park but I haven’t seen them go up to anybody themselves.

midnightstar66 · 11/04/2020 16:33

Well if those aren't the rules then why are police moving loiterers on?

Delatron · 11/04/2020 16:34

Would taking a yoga mat out and doing some gentle stretches be ok? You are ‘exercising’. I do feel for those without gardens.

Amymayapple · 11/04/2020 16:34

@Oly4 yes I suppose the size makes a difference. I am in a medium town in ireland and it is possible to sit in the park without being near anywhere else.

Though We could argue, why should people in the bigger cities not be given the same human rights as people in towns/villages. I am sure the police aren't out checking all the smaller parks and forests in England.

It makes me upset to hear that people can't even sit outside

rc22 · 11/04/2020 16:36

I'm ok with it but will struggle if they ban outdoor exercise.

bananafish · 11/04/2020 16:37

It’s rubbish, isn’t it? Especially with children in a flat. Mine are being really good, but I feel as though I am really letting them down. And the park here is pretty crowded because, you know, London 🤷🏽‍♀️

Orangeblossom78 · 11/04/2020 16:37

You can exercise, it doesn't state what kind. I've seen people canoeing in the river nearby- exercise. Police stopped a man swimming in the sea but he was exercising so they had leave him. Yoga is exercise too.

I'd just keep doing it, they can't carry you off! Wink

ChristmasCarcass · 11/04/2020 16:38

midnightstar66 that is rather my point - they should NOT be moving people on! Just like the policewoman in Rotherham had no power to stop children playing in their own garden, but she still did it, and that guy on the other thread should not have been arrested for taking shopping to his vulnerable mother, but he was, and Cambridgeshire police should not be tweeting about patrolling supermarkets making sure nobody was in the non-essential aisles, but they did.

Orangeblossom78 · 11/04/2020 16:39

Delatron city centre park here (Bath) there are people doing squats, running up and down, yoga etc. All seems to be fine.

However any people closer than 2m do get moved on such as dog walkers or groups sitting

midnightstar66 · 11/04/2020 16:41

The thing is, the more that people keep trying to bend the current rules/guidelines - whatever you want to call them then the more likely it is our outdoor exercise will be banned altogether. Referring again back to my family in a small rural village in cyprus - the helicopters come over several times a day and police are patrolling even the quietest of streets to check people are not leaving their properties. This is the sort of thing we can look forward to if we keep on with the 'what if we just did this'

ChristmasCarcass · 11/04/2020 16:42

Going out and exercising alone, a good distance from anybody else, is not “bending the rules”. It is following them to the letter.

midnightstar66 · 11/04/2020 16:42

And no it doesn't state what exercise but the general message is to get out and keep moving and get home

Tumbleweed101 · 11/04/2020 16:48

I have a garden now but spent a couple of hot summers in a flat with young children before I moved here and they were the most frustrating couple summers ever and that was without lockdown on top. Feel very sorry for anyone in this situation right now.

HellsAngel81 · 11/04/2020 17:09

The thing I'm struggling with at the minute is social media. Seeing everyone's photos of themselves having bbq, a glass of wine, sunbathing, ect. I did try 24 hrs without facebook, but then had family members posting pictures of themselves sunbathing (on the family whatsapp). I never minded not a garden before this.
