Is anyone else really, really struggling without a garden :(

I just can't bear to be indoors when the weather's so lovely, and every time someone tells me about their lovely barbecue or sitting out sunbathing it makes me want to cry. I'm really struggling. I'm just sitting indoors feeling hot and upset. I can't wait for this to be over.

It’s not all great, I don’t even go out because my neighbours have been in the garden all day every day shouting their heads off, makes sitting in the garden unpleasant. So I prefer to stay in. I do feel for those who don’t have gardens though, must be hard.

onlyconnect · 11/04/2020 14:48

I feel for you Radn. I think all the time about those with no outside space and how hard that must be.

Fullyhuman · 11/04/2020 14:48

I’m so sorry you don’t have a garden. It’s rubbish. Can you go out for a walk? And can you open all your windows? It’s a shame the weather is so unusually warm.

StrangerDays · 11/04/2020 14:49

Same here, Pumpkin. I have very loud, sweary neighbours that seem to chain smoke, which sets my asthma off.

It's awful not having a garden, completely agree OP, I feel unable to use mine :(

Gwenhwyfar · 11/04/2020 14:52

We're allowed out for a walk so I will be going for one later on. My issue is that I'd like to go out briefly to feel the weather to decide whether I should wear tights or not, but I can't do that as only allowed out once.

Amymayapple · 11/04/2020 14:58

Go to the park! I do not have a garden and I am sitting under a tree in my local park right now

Radn · 11/04/2020 15:04

They closed our big local park a couple of weeks ago. Apparently it's open today but is being policed by volunteers with megaphones admonishing anyone who loiters.

Volunteers? Have they taken it upon themselves to do this? Because I don't think walking round your local park with a megaphone was listed as an acceptable reason to leave the house.

SociallyDistant · 11/04/2020 15:07

I do feel for those like you without a garden, and in particular those stuck indoors with young children. Going for a walk may help to lift your spirits.

midnightstar66 · 11/04/2020 15:10

You can go and stand at your door to assess the temperature and it not be classed as your daily exercise @Gwenhwyfar

midnightstar66 · 11/04/2020 15:11

If you sit about outside in public areas though you can expect to be moved on

TreeTopTim · 11/04/2020 15:14

I have a garden but I don't use it. It doesn't get the sun and two of my neighbours have been out socializing together nearly every day and that just pisses me off because my kids are suffering because of lockdown and they are treating it like it's a holiday.

PeacockPies · 11/04/2020 15:19

Get your own megaphone and join in with the volunteers! Then you can be outside!

There is bound to be somewhere you can to that is more tranquil than the megaphone park. Can you look on the ordinance survey website and see if you can find some rights of way you can get to?

FabulouslyElegantTits · 11/04/2020 15:26

I have a garden ... but feel far to 'Corona-y' 🤮 to go and enjoy it. So I'm sat inside feeling hot and pissed off too!

How urban are you? Are you within walking distance of any deserted fields?

maryberrystalentlesstwin · 11/04/2020 15:30

@Gwenhwyfar going and standing at the front to check the weather doesn't count as your once outside!

Gwenhwyfar · 11/04/2020 15:35

Mary - yes, but it wouldn't tell me the weather properly either. I find I need to walk around, standing at the door it more sheltered and feels warmer. Plus, it's a shared front door and I don't like going there unless I'm going out. There are people hanging around down there.
First world problem I know. I'll just put tights on - I prefer being too hot to too cold.

bigchris · 11/04/2020 15:37

@Amymayapple where I live you'd be moved on, are you rural ?

Gwenhwyfar · 11/04/2020 15:37

" I do not have a garden and I am sitting under a tree in my local park right now"

Sunbathing or sitting in the shade in your local park is not allowed. Not seen the images of police telling people off for sunbathing. We're allowed out for a certain number of things, but those of us without gardens are no longer allowed to sit in the sun, only walk or run in it.

Eastie77 · 11/04/2020 15:40

I have felt like crying this week on behalf of my DC because we don't have a garden. Poor DD has been skating indoors and DS asking why we can't have a paddling pool and a garden. It's so shit. I was in the
process of putting my flat up for sale and had found a lovely house with a beautiful garden. Completely affordable. This this whole situation kicked off so we are stuck for now. We have lots of parks nearby but it's not the same and the police are constantly moving people on (completely understandable as many are taking the piss, setting up BBQ's etc).

Amymayapple · 11/04/2020 15:40

@bigchris @gwenhwyfar wow really! I am shocked. Really? I didn't know that was happening in the U.K.

I am in the republic of Ireland. In a very big park. Lots of people are here. Sunbathing/ at picnic tables/ playing football by themselves - practicing goals.

Everybody is very far away from each other.

SapphosRock · 11/04/2020 15:42

Yes struggling. Would love to send my two cranky, stir crazy kids into a garden right now. More snacks and more screen time instead Sad

Elephantonascooter · 11/04/2020 15:42

I feel you op, same boat here and with an 18 month old. We are lucky enough to have beautiful big windows either side of the house so can create a cross breeze and go for a walk.
We have been going for walks daily and I'm actually greatful of walking at toddler pace and of stopping to pick up every stone in sight because it keeps us out for longer!

Amymayapple · 11/04/2020 15:45

Are you really not allowed to sit in a park in the UK?

Why? If you are far away from other people. That doesn't make any sense.

As I said, I am am sitting in a park in ireland right now. There are lots of people here, but everyone is following the rules - and everyone is far away from each other

Swishswish26 · 11/04/2020 15:45

We have a very small yard but can’t use it as our neighbours constantly have friends round for drinks and if they are in their yard then we can’t be 2 metres from them (and their friends) so have to stay inside. We too had found a house with a garden and were about to put an offer in when this all started. I do feel for you. In many ways I am hoping for cooler weather.

Ready4abreak · 11/04/2020 15:45

Yes I'm struggling. In a flat with a 3 year old and 8 day old baby.

It's all very well saying go for a walk and we do but if you can't sit anywhere and should try to stay 2m from passers by its not the same as spending real times outdoors. Our poor DS has had his life completely turned upside down with the arrival of a brother and removal of everything he enjoys doing outside of the house.

Feel very much like we are existing and not living at the moment and sure that I would be finding it much easier if we had a garden. See pictures of people camping in gardens, paddling pools and bbqs and just feel so guilty that we can't we give him the same things.
