Researchers at Kings College London and Guys & St Thomas’ Hospital are asking people in the UK to use this app: covid.joinzoe.com/ to help track the spread of people with Covid-19 symptoms. It only takes 3 taps a day.

Please take part if you can. There are over 2 million people currently using it but the more people who do, the better the data.

Did you see who is fronting the app? It's the ID twin guy off telly, Tim Spector.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 11/04/2020 11:23

Yes, he looks like Gary Lineker!

Downloaded the app and put my information in, thank you, didn’t know about this!

Keepdistance · 11/04/2020 11:38

They need to do a web version too as my phone nor kindle will download it as phone too old and kindle doesnt like google apps

YoungBritishPissArtist · 11/04/2020 12:52

I’ve read about this, is it legit? I’m (perhaps overly!) worried about my data

ActuallyItsEugene · 11/04/2020 12:54

What questions are they asking?

Sparklingbrook · 11/04/2020 13:01

Your details are quite vague. Postcode (just first bit) gender, height, weight yes/no to medical problems. They have your email address, I didn't put my surname in and you could put any name in really.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 11/04/2020 13:19

@YoungBritishPissArtist yes it’s legit. KCL are actively pushing it on their FB page.

The questions it’s asked me so far are:

  • Have you taken a test for Covid-19?
  • Do you take medication for high blood pressure? (New one today)
  • Do you feel physically well today?

You just answer the same questions every day. I’ve been well so it’s ended there but I know if you’re not feeling quite right it will ask some more questions about your symptoms.

Do you have to remember to fill it in every day, or does it prompt you? I want something that prompts me, not something else on my to do list.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 11/04/2020 17:52

No prompts. I suppose you could set up a repeat reminder?

OP posts:
Gazelda · 11/04/2020 18:31

I get a prompt each day. I've got it on iPhone app, if that makes a difference?

Windywuss · 11/04/2020 18:43

I was worried by the new BP question. I do take meds for it. Haven't heard anything about whether controlled BP is more risky or not.

Iamclearlyamug · 11/04/2020 19:10

My android phone gives me a prompt each day

PicsInRed · 11/04/2020 19:13

Nope.

SomethingPhishy · 11/04/2020 19:23

Done. Thanks OP.

My VERY limited understanding is that the ACE inhibitors might play a role. About 13.20 into this video.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 11/04/2020 19:33

I’ve registered. I didn’t put a name, guessed my weight and only put the first 2 letters of my postcode so I’ve no idea if I’m any help or not!

Windywuss · 11/04/2020 19:52

Shit @MrsTerryPratchett am I a gonner?

Really scared of what will happen when lockdown ends and I have to go back to work with tons of people in close proximity in a university. I'm a lone parent. It's so scarey.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/04/2020 20:09

I doubt it! If it was that cut and dried we'd all know about it! Just keep an eye on the research, I'd say. My dads on them and I'm not assuming the worst!

JollyAndBright · 11/04/2020 20:16

Isn’t this the app that had the perfectly reasonable question about “what sex were you born?” and they changed it to “what sex were you assigned at birth?”

I’m pretty sure this is the same company I sent a a strongly worded email to.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 11/04/2020 20:59

They also ask something which gender do you identify with. I said prefer not to say as it’s none of their business.

Sparklingbrook · 12/04/2020 14:51

I think the questions are fine, you can skip all the sex/gender stuff if you so wish.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 12/04/2020 15:27

It wouldn't let me past without saying how I identified, hence putting prefer not to say. I put the very least I could as I have reservations about how well it will be anonymised if the data is shared.

Sparklingbrook · 12/04/2020 15:54

Yes, I meant by putting 'prefer not to say', I don't think they are that interested in that bit TBH but I just answered the questions honestly.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 12/04/2020 16:03

I got a notification today at 11-ish. The screenshots are the 3 buttons I press to report.
