Covid-19 UK Vs India fatalities, I don't understand

Dear All,
I'm finding the figures all very difficult to discern. Why are some countries infections/death figures so horrendous? Africa and India's figures are nowhere near as scary. Many people in India are living close together with no running water. You'd think the perfect grounds for spread but as of yesterday only 199 people had died in India. I just don't get it. What's going on?
(to be clear, long may the low death rates continue in those places).
Can NZ avoid it or will they just be infected once they open their borders? Is it as simple as closing till the worst of it is over? The virus will still exist, is it possible to avoid?

The thing is Italy, Spain and France are all quite hot now too and have been for a few weeks now.

No, Madrid had snow just recently as did much of the north. It's not as hot as you may think! It's actually warmer in the UK at the moment. The summer temps won't start for a while yet.

cinammonbuns
PicsInRed if you are referring to me then you will be pleased to hear that I am from one of the ‘third world’ you are referring to!

I didn't say anything about the "third world", not that there would be anything wrong had I done so.

Why would I be "pleased" you're from "one of those countries". 🤔

I have no idea what you're on about.

@cinammonbuns I have not mentioned temperatures; I am not on social media other than MN. I'm not sure what you think I have said.

@cinammonbuns pay more attention. The virus is running rampant in South East Asia, at least some parts of it.

There were more 40% more funerals than usual in Jakarta in March. (there will be lots more unofficial funerals.)

www.idnfinancials.com/news/33268/funerals-held-jakarta-march

Coffin makers are working 18 hour days.

jakartaglobe.id/vision/jakartas-coffin-makers-swamped-with-orders-in-first-month-of-pandemic

Indonesia has had 32 doctors die of corona.

katadata.co.id/berita/2020/04/12/44-dokter-dan-perawat-ri-meninggal-dunia-akibat-virus-corona

Thee official figures are 373 deaths, total.

The reality is clearly many thousands.

Most (!) of the Thais returning from Jakarta last week were infected with covid-19.

www.thejakartapost.com/seasia/2020/04/08/large-number-of-thai-returnees-from-indonesia-carry-covid-19.html

the reasons for this is no, or limited lock-down, lots of Islamic propaganda on social media saying 'you better die from corona than the wrath of Allah, you must continue to go to the mosque', little social distancing, etc.

That's what happens when even in 'hygienic' tropical, etc. countries, the virus is allowed to spread. It does, and it kills.

21 million Chinese mobile numbers are reported to have become usage inactive since Dec/Jan.

Which is approx. 1% of their population.

Is less to do with coronavirus, and, IMO, entirely due to the fact that Chinese need to have face scans to get a new phone under the new surveillance laws

High Vitamin D levels in body isn't that protective against respiratory infections... even the authors of the big BMJ review said that it only decreased risk by about 13% from baseline ( "the absolute risk reduction is from 42.2% to 36.9%" ). Definite but arguably modest reduction. Big deal in public health. Small deal to an individual.

85% of the risk of getting sick still there. Good levels of Vitamin D in your body are no shield.
Stay out of reach to stay safe.

'Under reporting 100%. The most at risk in slums in India have potentially never seen the inside of a hospital. As well as the huge rural population.

Same with Africa.

It's tragic, but this will be a reporting issue.'

You're saying this as though we don't have a reporting issue here.

That affected new phone buyers, but did not require new phone purchase (which would have seen churn of many 100s of millions rather than 21 million).

Well, India is much poorer than UK with more than double of its population.
Yet.... they are taking responsibility in their own hands , not whining about govt doing anything for them or not. Not just going about proving a point that differs from experts advice.

Its tough to be resilient when you are poor and when you know you have very few resources to play with... About those poor left to walk to their home... yes, they were but many govt did give them money and food. Ordinary citizen who are struggling themselves financially are going around distributing food packets out of their personal pocket or funded by their friends. Ask me how I know.

They are taking up a war head on and as a ONE ; with few resources. Helping each other.

...and about those videos on people not following, its a 1.3 Bill nation... wont we find idiots?.. and those ones are out mostly because they are ignorant... not because they want to prove their point.

I think they have won it... whatever the outcome is.

Hoping best for all countries and evryone Flowers
