Medication shortages

I am currently on fluoxetine to manage bouts of depression and BPD traits, I put my prescription through last week and went to pick it up today to be told that there is a pharmacy wide shortage of fluoxetine and to ring the drs for an alternative. Can't get through to the doctors and I only have 2 tablets left. It's sending my anxiety through the roof... has anyone else had much experience of this? I didn't realise it was a problem!

Haven't heard of such a shortage (I work in mental health). Try ringing round other pharmacies to check whether they have stock. Try not to worry too much - fluoxetine has a long half life and amongst all the SSRIs is least likely to cause any discontinuation symptoms if you run out over the bank holiday weekend

GPs should be open tomorrow and on Monday.
