Morrisons - 3 tins in TOTAL!

Went to Morrisons yesterday and at checkout was told I am only allowed 3 tins in total- NOT e.g. 3 tins chopped tomatoes + 3 tins beans. 3 tins in total will cover 1-2 meals max for my family who are all vegetarians. How absurd.

Has anyone experienced the same?

That’s absurd! There’s a recipe I cook regularly that needs 4 tins alone.

Also vegetarian and definitely use more tins than when I was omni.

No. That's really daft and will only mean people have to go shopping much more often, thus increasing risk.

I can believe that - there are many recipes where I use 3 tins - chopped tomatoes and 2 types of beans for example. I need to feed my family!

I think the cashier was a bit confused.

Cashier physically unable to scan more tins - brought manager over who clarified rules as 3 tins in total

Dh had 4 different tins of fruit and was told the till couldn't scan the 4th.

I want to take this further as their policy is not right

We have similar problem, we normally eat a lot of beany things, curries with tinned toms and coconut milk, now you can't get a tin of black or borlotti beans anywhere. Lentils have been in short supply too. It definitely causes more problems for veggies / vegans who don't want to eat processed food.

That’s a bit mad, tinned goods must be at least 1/4 of the shop. Any of the same things you could get in a jar/tetrapak/snap pot instead?

Also my dad used to eat a lot of tinned fruit because he could only cope with soft food (before he died, my mum now has a billion tins of prunes and rhubarb in the garage to get rid of, she was gradually taking them to the food bank!) so what about people on specific diets?

Where does posh tea, Cocoa and golden syrup fit in to that logic... pringles??

No restrictions at Lidl, not sure about Aldi

@dancingwithwarthogs I suppose you can get dried lentils in a bag but no alternative for beans and chopped tomatoes I think

No ideal, but coould you get dry beans and lentils- beans need soaking overnight, but otherwise lentils can be cookes straight away, and save the tins for tomatoes?
It is silly, like telling people you can only buy 3 types of fruit or veg? It will encourage going out more.

Isn't this counter productive? Won't ppeople have to shop more often?

@Morereasonsnot My Morrisons has dry beans in a different aisle, alongside dry peas, lentils, etc. If you have a Eastern Europen shop nearby loads of them sell dry beans too of various colours and sizes.

It is indeed counter productive.

I'm vegetarian so get many of my nutrients from tins. I also have a family of four, with two teens.

There's no way that's enough and I would then have to visit other stores.

Will have to go to Aldi. @strawberry2017 I don't believe they had 4 packs - not even baked beans.

Thanks for the heads up on the dried beans... but I think Aldi will be better for the convenience factor of not doing all the additional prep before cooking

M&S is well stocked if you are struggling
