Morrisons - 3 tins in TOTAL!

Morereasonsnot · 09/04/2020 10:04

Went to Morrisons yesterday and at checkout was told I am only allowed 3 tins in total- NOT e.g. 3 tins chopped tomatoes + 3 tins beans. 3 tins in total will cover 1-2 meals max for my family who are all vegetarians. How absurd.

Has anyone experienced the same?

Vote with your feet and go elsewhere.
I think though there is a terrific variation around the country on stock levels etc. I now go to either the co-op or Aldi. I have never had to queue for either (although I try and go at quiet times) and they have most things, especially Aldi - the shelves were groaning with tins, round here anyway.
I have stopped going to Tesco because of the huge queues and the rude, power crazy staff, (this might just be my Tesco though!) but also because they only allow you a small trolley. I can't get a weeks shop in a small trolley, which means I would have to shop more often. I live a long way from the supermarket, so not only would I be using more petrol, I would be making unecessary trips. In fact, after 40 years, they have lost my custom forever now.

Found this in the cupboard of random impulse purchases!
Think I got it with a camping trip in mind, but may repurpose as a pie filling at some point.

I won’t be eating wild boar, would be like eating my cousin

EdInjury · 09/04/2020 11:40

I've got a brain tumour and epilepsy but not on NHS list of conditions. My husband is recovering from cancer but not on chemo.
I can't get any Morrisons slots, and it's the only big supermarket near me. So we had to get the bus.

We got to the till at Morrisons, got veg, bread and toilet roll. I had a tin of baked beans, a tin of tomatoes and a tin of kidney beans.

I was told that I could not have the small tin of prunes, pears and pineapple.

The staff member looked awful and really stressed and we didn't argue, just went.

Weedsnseeds1 · 09/04/2020 11:40

Grin I have eaten warthog before!

TheReluctantCountess · 09/04/2020 11:41

I was debating between Asda and Morrison’s for our weekly shop later today. Asda it is, if Morrison’s won’t allow more than three tins.

NoClarification · 09/04/2020 11:41

The restrictions are so counterproductive! I got a huge ocado shop a few days ago but because they set a limit of 4pts of milk i now have to go out again Hmm You cant stockpile fresh milk so why the restriction to less than i would buy in a normal shop?! Luckily they now seem to have seen sense and removed that particular limit.

VivaLeBeaver · 09/04/2020 11:42

Well they’re happily doing home deliveries with more than 3 tins in a shop. We’re a veggi household and I had tinned tomatoes, coconut milk, chickpeas, kidney beans, black eyed beans.....couple of tins of each.

PristineCondition · 09/04/2020 11:44

1forsorrow · 09/04/2020 11:45

Dried beans, tomato puree, multi packs, tetra packs, blitz some tomatoes in a liquidiser? It must be difficult for a veggie family. Hope you find more.

foxychox · 09/04/2020 11:47

sorry to hear that edinjury....
Of all the supermarkets I think Morrisons are handling this the worst - I've complained about the lack of communication (anywhere, not just direct) and it also seems there is a lack of common sense and consistency...

Morereasonsnot · 09/04/2020 11:49

Just had it confirmed that this restriction is correct. Hmm I will be taking my custom elsewhere

It was very quiet in Morrison’s when I went and I had a nice cashier who offered to run the tins as 3 separate transactions.

BaudiMoovan · 09/04/2020 11:49

(But yes that policy did seem to be in place at Morrison’s. It is ridiculous.)

1forsorrow · 09/04/2020 11:53

I went to Sainsburys about 3 weeks ago, peak stockpiling I think. I was getting my shopping and some for DIL who is front line NHS. Self service till wouldn't let me buy her stuff, I put mine through first so I knew what I was spending. I went to customer service and they asked me if I had a different card or cash and just put it through.

Sexnotgender · 09/04/2020 11:55

The restrictions are different online. They won’t let you buy more than 3 of the same thing which is fine.

Runnerduck34 · 09/04/2020 11:57

Missing the point - but did they have chopped tomatoes????
3 tins rule is ridiculous, I was told I couldn't have more than one chicken product in a supermarket yesterday, I had chicken breast and chicken burgers so had to swap the chicken burgers for beef burgers.
We are a family of 6 , youngest DC is 13 so all eating adult portions , plus eldest DDs boyfriend is staying here, so not being able to buy more than 2/3 is a nightmare for us. Would be doable if you're a couple or a small family with young dc but I'm am having to do more supermarket trips or go to with someone else to feed the 7 adults/ teenagers in my household as its difficult to do it in one shop

livingthegoodlife · 09/04/2020 12:00

Go to Lidl. No restrictions. I even got tinned chickpeas this week! No tinned toms though. But I bought 3 x 6pts of milk. Amazing! We get through an awful lot of milk and I've been rationing it at home. The kids were excited to have a cup of milk AND cereal today!

Sexnotgender · 09/04/2020 12:02

I’ve been buying plum tomatoes and Passata rather than chopped tomatoes. Plenty round here.

SarahTancredi · 09/04/2020 12:04

So many of the stupid restrictions are counter productive.

They want one person to go shopping as little as possible but you can't buy enough of anything in order to do that.

So you either have to go daily or take your family and send them all in separately. Its become a joke...

LilacTree1 · 09/04/2020 12:05

Bonkers

Makes me wonder if they are trying to get people to shop more often.

MrsWhites · 09/04/2020 12:06

@1forsorrow I also had the same issue when buying food for my elderly nan as well as myself. They wouldn’t let me buy her more than 3 ready meals (which although not brilliant are all she can really cook for herself) and wouldn’t let me get more than 3 tins.

They tell you to support those who can’t go out on their own or are busy working in front line roles but then put so many restrictions in place that this is just not possible!

TheReluctantCountess · 09/04/2020 12:11

Has anyone got a link to something official from Morrison’s which states this rule?

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 09/04/2020 12:22

This is yet another example of a process that disproportionately affects people with health conditions, transport issues, and limited budgets. Those who are the least likely to be able to shop elsewhere.

It's a dreadful policy, Morrisons.
