No room to work from home! Can I rent somewhere?

Ok there is really no space to work from home with my teens there. It is too stressful. We just have one open plan kitchen/lounge and my bedroom doesn’t have space for a desk. I’m not working on my bed.

There are several closed businesses nearby and also houses on the market: would it be ok to approach them and ask if could rent some space? Would this be okay do you think?

Have you checked if there’s proper space rental nearby?

All the normal ones which do short term desks and rooms have closed. I don’t want to do something long term because it is just for the period of lockdown

It's difficult if you rely on co-working places or would like one now, you can't even go to a library or use a cafe's wifi.

Don't know what to suggest, sorry.

I suppose people might do it as an unofficial arrangement then.

I think storage units are still operating but I don’t know if you’d be allowed to set up desk, etc there.

I'm working from home in what sounds like a similar set up. 2 bed house, 2 adults wfh in the living room so 2 desk areas set up. Teenager working in his room on his desk. It's not ideal but it's not forever. Some of my colleagues are working in their bedrooms using an overbed table.
You could try to rent somewhere but what about wifi connections etc?

I would post on your local facebook group - there might be a shop/ pub/ cafe owner who would appreciate someone going into their premises daily and checking it is ok/ keeping it occupied and in exchange you get somewhere to work at low cost.

I don’t see how people can work from their beds! Don’t they knackered their necks and backs?

I really don’t want to confine my teens to their box rooms all day. They’ll be really miserable.

If your bed is in the middle of the room, can you push it up against the wall to make some room for a small desk?

Can you not go into work? That wouldn’t be any different to renting somewhere.

We have a local pub/Inn that is leasing out bedrooms with full wi-fi 2 coffee breaks and lunch for £30 a day which can be off set as expenses. It seemed expensive at first but a lot of people commented that they could get a lot of work done in a day, more than at home, they could write it off and they had no travel expenses so it was working as an alternative.

I could push my bed against a wall and get a desk in - but then my room is right next to the bathroom and there’s no sound proofing - it’s just chaotic when I’m on video calls.

My normal office is in a health and care environment with Covid patients and although I could work there I REALLY want to avoid it.

Can you go into the box room instead of the teens? Maybe swap around every few days?

Our tenants including shared offices still have 24 hour access. I will rent you a space if you are in Scotland!

How can you rent garden offices? Where would they be advertised?

Can you have a look on spare room for your area? My housemate has just moved out leaving us completely in the shit with paying her rent. None of the rest of us are living in the house at the moment so it’s a totally empty flat that I’m now having to pay 50% extra bills and rent for. I’d love to rent the empty bedroom to someone looking for somewhere to work from.
