Lots of people on MN who need help getting food

I've seen threads where people who are self isolating, shielding, single parents, vulnerable, disabled or other reasons that they cannot or should not get to the shops themselves. Is there any way we can start a thread that might help some? (Sorry if already done).

So if someone says that they are in a certain area and needs help getting shopping then others in that area can PM them and find out if they are close enough to help?

It's probably best if they go through the established routes in the first instance.

I would always encourage people to first ask people they know. I'm sure if anyone in the groups you mention put out a social media request, they'd have multiple offers from friends and relatives to help them out.

Then there's all the organised help and the 750 000 volunteers. I don't know if this is working or how to access it, but hopefully it is available for the people that need it?

I would hope that people would be able to access the help they need that way, rather than getting in contact with unvetted strangers who could be absolutely anyone, even if they appear to be a nice Mumsnetter.

I agree that they should be signposted to the official support. Each local authority has a community hub which is easy to find online.

At the risk of stiring up righteous indignation, it would help if people just read some of the comments to the original posts.
The information/potential solutions have been repeated over and over again in various posts but these get pushed further down the list of posts as other posters arrive asking a variation of the same thing.
Maybe on of those posts which always stay at the top of the page would be helpful but, I don't know how you do that - presumably through the Mumsnet moderators?
Then again, it's a changing situation so what is the case today, may not be the case tomorrow and what is on offer in Suffolk may not be an option in Lancashie.

Our Local authority have taken over the volunteering here support groups sprung up to knock on doors delivering soup etcetc all very well intentioned but irresponsible because it seemed a good excuse to get out of the house for volunteers . So i think signposting is probably safest for everybody.
