This £20 a week increase to working tax credit... Anyone know any more details about it yet?

As I'm sure that it was meant to be effective from April 6th, but my tax credits online payment schedule for the next 6 weeks isn't showing any increase Hmm

As a self employed parent whose income has collapsed it would be useful right now!

They told me on web chat the £20 per week was automatic, and will be received by 16th May, they couldn’t tell me if I’d definitely benefit though

nolovelost · 09/04/2020 06:57

Angry I've got £13 extra!

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 09/04/2020 06:59

No change here. Is that a new change today nolovelost?

SerfNTerf · 09/04/2020 07:09

I got £4 extra in total but not sure how that was split as my WTC and CTC are paid together. I assume this is the annual uprating! I'll carry on waiting for the promised £20...

Oh I'm sorry. Yes just looked. It's be the same for a long time and now a slight increase. Hopefully they'll be more next week. Was expecting more. I thought they'd be £20 and more because of the benefit freeze?

nolovelost · 09/04/2020 07:14

Two separate transactions - child and working tax credit 187.34. (was 186.89 every week).

And then working tax credit 12.30

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 09/04/2020 07:14

I think the benefit freeze thing is 1.7%

Fingers crossed for us serf Can you not access your payments on government gateway? That would tell you what was working and what was ctc

SerfNTerf · 09/04/2020 07:16

I can yes, I just haven't got out of bed and turned on my laptop yet 😂 I'll check properly over a cup of coffee in a minute.

*(was 186.19)

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 09/04/2020 07:17

I just use the app 😂

SistemaAddict · 09/04/2020 08:15

Nothing extra in mine this month. I've got my statement and due to be paid on Monday. I'm new to UC and don't know if the payment will be late or early due to the BHs.

SistemaAddict · 09/04/2020 08:21

Just checked, it's gone in today and is the same amount as last month. The child benefit increased this week though.

SerfNTerf · 09/04/2020 09:06

I've just checked with the live chat service and they said I would get the raise by 18th May and that it would be spread out across the rest of the years payments (ie I wouldn't get a lump sum of the extra £20/week backdated when they get round to increasing my payments, it'll just be £22 a week or whatever for the rest of the year).

My working tax credit is going down by £2 a week.

I haven't had a pay rise for two years and not getting one this year, so no idea why it's going down if there's meant to be an increase in WTC.

swapsicles · 09/04/2020 09:38

It all depends on what you're entitled to it's not £20 for everyone, wasn't exactly made clear though!
I spoke via web chat and although I'm not entitled as I only get child tax credit not working tax he rejigged things as my income was lower and I had an overpayment and so I'll be getting a bit more for a little while at least.
It's just me and dad, I'm on furloughed 80% same as DD but it was only a p/t job anyway and nothing else so every little helps!

2020changedtheworld · 09/04/2020 09:46

Gov website says "The increase could mean up to an extra £20 each week"

Waxonwaxoff0 · 09/04/2020 09:55

Mine has decreased by £7. Child benefit has gone up slightly though.

Verily1 · 09/04/2020 10:48

Mine has gone down!?

ForeverBubblegum · 09/04/2020 11:18

Mines gone up, £8 on WTC and £15 on CTC. Not sure if this is the extra announced, an anual increase, or possibly the end of repaying an overpayment. But either way very welcome right now.

SoloMummy · 09/04/2020 12:05

If its like the uc increase the did last year, the 1k they spoke of actually led to £830 in real terms that was added to your work allowance I believe. So in effect you could that amount more before they started reducing what they give. So any increase is unlikely to be in real terms an extra £20 a week as she was saying yesterday on TV. Just that you can earn £20 more per week.

nolovelost · 09/04/2020 12:32

My child benefit has gone up about £3 and I've had a rise of £2 in housing benefit.

SerfNTerf · 09/04/2020 13:46

@SoloMummy no, the announcement was quite clear, the basic element of working tax credit is rising by £1045 for this financial year. I don't know how it's being done for UC as I don't claim UC yet but WTC is definitely set to rise. I get the full basic element due to my low income so should see the full £20.

@SerfNTerf
Hope that you're right.
But I would take the promise with a pinch of salt. You are very unlikely to see £20 extra a week I fear.
