Meanwhile people are distracted by someone not on a ventilator taking up a bed in ICU. Hmm.

Tuesday is now a 'jump' day (look at last few weeks for a patern) because Monday is a 'lower' day, due to the lag in recording of cases over the weekend.

It was to be expected.

bigchris · 07/04/2020 16:27

And that's just hospital deaths , loads more in care homes and at home, being recorded as pneumonia and frailty of old age because they're not being tested

esjee · 07/04/2020 16:28

There a lag in recording every day! Some deaths aren't getting added to the daily figures for 1 week + after they happen. I don't know why people don't understand this and still take them as gospel.

midgebabe · 07/04/2020 16:29

It's not gospel but it's a pretty good indication of how we are progressing ( if averaged over a few days) and likely to be reasonably comparable to other European countries

EightNineTen · 07/04/2020 16:32

That's not including NI which is apparently 73.

Sparklingbrook · 07/04/2020 16:33

They did say it would get worse before it got better, and I don't think it has peaked yet.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 07/04/2020 16:34

Given that the way the numbers are reported there will always be late reports. But they are the what we have, and the ONS catch up unravels some of it.

The numbers yesterday and today seem to be as expected, I'll wait to see the daily graph gradient before I decide how I feel about it

Oldbutstillgotit · 07/04/2020 16:34

@ Oneliner do you honestly think Boris would be in ICU if the doctors didn’t think it essential ? Seriously ?

viccat · 07/04/2020 16:34

It's sad but also not surprising, we've constantly been told to expect the figures to go up for a while longer still.

mumwon · 07/04/2020 16:37

Boris is on oxygen which is why he is in icu (sometimes I seriously wonder about people) its not a luxury apartment you know! - he even has to share the room
Biscuit

CuriousaboutSamphire · 07/04/2020 16:38

Now now, hold the biscuits. You'll be joining the Sensible Brigade if you carry on like that!

Rosehip10 · 07/04/2020 16:39

Why is there and 854 UK deaths (presumably including those outside hospital) released early afternoon and then later in the day a 786 UK "in hospitals" released, of course the press conference always uses the lower figure Hmm

MinkowskisButterfly · 07/04/2020 16:40

There appear to be two figures circulating - this figure and one of 756 both saying they are UK totals both coming from different sources both apparently for today.

Rosehip10 · 07/04/2020 16:54

786 is the DHSC afternoon UK figure, yet always lower than the UK totals released at 14.00 or so.

doodleygirl · 07/04/2020 16:56

Is this a thing, calling the number of deaths in a thread. Why? Is it really necessary or do you believe it is your job?

FFS do something of use.

Greysparkles · 07/04/2020 17:02

I think I've said this so many times I'm boring myself.

That figure is just numbers without context.

We have not peaked yet.

Why the fuck are people surprised at the numbers rising when we haven't peaked yet

The outcome of all the social distancing will not be seen yet

Can we just all stop frothing over useless numbers and calm down a bit.

Easilyanxious · 07/04/2020 17:02

Intensive care is not just for those on ventilators he wouldn't be there if he didn't need to be , what a ridiculous comment to make .

GabsAlot · 07/04/2020 17:05

yes i heard 700+ first then the added figures from around the uk-we'll never know the true number anyway
