Predictions - tiny weddings getting the go ahead

Hi all, we were meant to be getting married in late March, obviously this was cancelled. Only us and 6 guests.

So just for fun / giving me some hope, any predictions for when v small gatherings will be once again allowed?

Was that with a UK registrar or priest over zoom as I thought they were banned?

It was an islamic wedding held in her flat in london. She had an imam conducting the ceremony

Not rescheduled yet; register office were keen to get us booked in asap / 3 weeks from the announcement of measures, so next week?! We said we'd wait until things were clearer, rather than having to cancel again

We have a weird system in the Uk where if you are Jewish or Christian the celebrant/priest must also do the civil marriage a the same time but for hindus, muslims etc that is not required. I have one client who in glee in a business meeting once said he was not legally married to his wife but she didn't know that so she would do very badly if they split up. ick Jagger married jery Hall on a tropical island and it was not a legal marriage so she got much letter money as she had no divorce rights. So it is certainly something to consider.

The interesting legal point will be if you are in the UK and you find say a US wedding that could be done by zoom with the celebrant in the US would English courts recognise that as a valid marriage recognised in English law in the same way that if you flew to Vegas for a weekend to get married that would be recognised. We need a family lawyer to answer that.

I'm a wedding photographer. My business has been decimated. All my couples are rebooking for autumn or next year so far. I've a few summer ones hanging on to see but everything has moved on a year pretty much. Tough times for all

My friend is very savvy and financially independent so am I sure she will legally register it here when she has the chance if she wants to. I saw that the high court had decided in one case that a nikah was legal in UK law in relation to that particular case.
Anyway she said she had a lovely ceremony, just the two of them in the flat with the imam and her family who were abroad zooming in.

Registry office have contacted again, "aim for 3 weeks time?"........they're optimistic!

Although I suppose they're keen to do as many as they can given the potential number of postponements

I knew a couple in the same position. Unfortunately she died, leaving him in a much worse position than if they had been married (not entitled to widowed parent's allowance under the old, more generous system, or spouse's pension). Not sorry for him one bit in that regard.

I thought they were allowing weddings with the couple, 2 witnesses and official present only? Or have they too been cancelled now?

No all ceremonies cancelled in uk now

I was just looking at the regs. on this. www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/350/contents/made They allow some people go to funerals and allow ministers to travel to their churches.
They do not allow public gatherings of more than 2 people (I presume that means not including people of the same house) so if a couple live together could they meet a priest - so a public gathering of in effect two and get married? I think the ban on UK civil bit of a marriage (for Jews and Christians) might be in other rules however.

It could be we now have a religious discrimination situation in place against Christians and Jews but if lock down is lifted soon then perhaps there is no point in litigating it.
