Before the lockdown I checked our supplies Vitamin C, Zinc, Calpol and adult paracetamol. I topped up where necessary and added in echinacea tablets and cough drops. I bought a salt inhaler which I’ve read can build up lungs (asthma family) which we’ve been using although possibly just a fad. Anyone else looked at their home medicine kits?

A friend of mine had it (we think, not confirmed) and said it really helped her to breathe in essential oils like tea tree and mint. It's obviously not going to stop you getting pneumonia but if nothing else I think it's quite calming if you're feeling anxious/short of breath.

Sgtmajormummy · 06/04/2020 16:02

Paper plates, napkins and disposable bamboo cutlery. If one person is self isolating it’s best to dispose of anything they eat/drink from.
Otherwise they’ll get used for picnics when we’re allowed back out for one (Italy). Sigh...

ihatethecold · 06/04/2020 16:02

Oximeter
Blood pressure monitor
Peak flow

All used to give vital stats over the phone so a dr can asses what state my lungs are in.

I was advised to get these by my friend who is a GP.
I have asthma

WanderingLost167 · 06/04/2020 16:03

Panadol. Cold and flu drugs helped. Disney +

They all helped.

Lovemusic33 · 06/04/2020 16:03

I had it 2 weeks ago (I think), only thing I wish I had bought was paracetamol, I wasn’t very poorly with it and luckily had enough food for the week for the dc’s, neighbour did get me a loaf of bread. I had the loss of taste so maybe something to suck on would have been nice, some sweets or mints.

StrawberryJam200 · 06/04/2020 16:08

Yup similar, and for the kids I got Calpol, cough syrup (not medicine), and started trying to teach my tween how to swallow tablets in case the Calpol ran out! Oh and tried to get a digital thermometer as only had old mercury one, had to order it online and it should arrive sometime in next two weeks.

(Also extra sanpro for me because if I’m coughing a lot then stress incontinence comes into play..... know the feeling?)

ShastaBeast · 06/04/2020 16:10

Pulse oximeter
Bottle of long life milk
Box of tissues
Vitamin D3
Zinc
Quercetin with vitamin C

Ended up with symptoms so got Ventolin prescription and lansoprazole for heartburn, plus gaviscon etc. Used a dehumidifier with olbas oil for the worst nights plus honey and lemon. Hot drinks helped the cough.

moita · 06/04/2020 16:11

A bottle of Calpol for the children. Box of paracetamol for us. I've got a few packets of snacks just for emergencies. for the children. Spare sabultamol inhaler for myself or my daughter (both have asthma) - will get used either way.

ofwarren · 06/04/2020 16:13

Definitely pulse oximeter
It makes you feel like you can't breathe, which causes you to panic.
This meant that I could see I was getting enough oxygen so I calmed me down.

I also got a humidifier as it caused dry airways.

Lots of people are struggling with acid reflux too so get some gaviscon.

PonderTweek · 06/04/2020 16:16

Calpol and adult paracetamol, Night Nurse, Berocca, sports drinks, lucozade, coke, biscuits and pot noodles. Standard sicky stuff really. We all ended up really ill with a bug (maybe Covid, maybe something else) so we used up a lot of the stuff, but have now managed to re-stock for the next illness.

Sports drinks and sugary Lucozade are a lifesaver! I always have some in the garage in case we get D&V or the flu. Would recommend.

My husband works in healthcare and we've always had things like oximeters and blood pressure cuffs etc knocking about, and I found the oximeters really reassuring as I could feel like I wasn't getting enough oxygen but the numbers proved otherwise.

MinkowskisButterfly · 06/04/2020 16:17

Ice pops for sore throats.

Already had paracetamol.

Haven't bought anything else specific for actual infection. But have bought a lot of crafts etc for isolation, lock down.

FascinatingCarrot · 06/04/2020 16:17

Oximiter
Paracetamol
Hot water bottle
Zinc
Just bought a nebuliser and iodine (mild copd anyway so will come in handy at some point)
Extra essential oils for diffuser ( blocked nose mix)

TheReluctantCountess · 06/04/2020 16:20

What’s an oximeter?

I’ve got paracetamol.

MaidenMotherCrone · 06/04/2020 16:21

A Will..... it was actually free online but still.
Life insurance.......not free but feel so much better for it.

MinkowskisButterfly · 06/04/2020 16:22

@PonderTweek can you recommend an oximeter, I'm asthmatic and monitor my peak flow anyway but think that might be a useful thing to have for the others in my house.

PrimalLass · 06/04/2020 16:23

Soluble paracetamol
Powdered vitamin C
Oximiter
Salt pipe and iodine (am hypothyroid)

IHaveBrilloHair · 06/04/2020 16:24

@FascinatingCarrot
What does iodine do?

ihatethecold · 06/04/2020 16:24

I got my oximeter from eBay for about £12.

Northernsoullover · 06/04/2020 16:25

If you have a later Samsung phone you might find it has an oximeter on it.

justanotherneighinparadise · 06/04/2020 16:29

We’ve bought a lot because my DP has a condition that puts him on the vulnerable list.

Copious medicines
A nebuliser
An oxygen machine
An oxygen monitor that slots on the finger
TamiFlu and the anti malaria drug that Trump has stocked up on 😬

Itsjustmee · 06/04/2020 16:29

I already have a good supply of stuff already and I have a lot of emergency stuff in the garage in case we can’t get out for whatever reason

But I’m doing shopping and caring for my dad and did what he calls his SAS Go bag 😂 full of essentials in case I have to self isolate and can’t get to him.

So he has a bag under the stairs which he’s not to touch If can’t get to him and it has 3 x UHT milk cartons, lots of cans of soups, tuna, noodles
pasta sauces, cornflakes, weetabix sardines, tea bags coffee, 2 packs of bottled water, orange juice, biscuits, toilet paper shower gel and antibacterial wipes & paracetamol cough mixture and cough sweets .
There is enough in the bag to last him 10 days at least . He will be the last man standing 😂

Atalune · 06/04/2020 16:31

Checked our Medical supplies and have them stocked up and neatly stored for us or the kids to access.

Filled the freezer with easy meals to defrost and reheat. Got tins of soups, lots of simple snacks/food for the children to make and eat if they have to.

Have reminded/shown both the children how to use the
kettle
Microwave
Washer/dryer
Thermometer
Call for help (various contacts)
Charge devices
Lock and unlock doors

Bought some home decorating supplies and some extra craft and cleaning bits to occupy us all during this time.

Written a shared family charter with ideas and expectations and brought in daily gratitudes.

FascinatingCarrot · 06/04/2020 16:32

@IHaveBrilloHair (love that name)
Have a look on the my lungs part 6 thread, theres a video there to explain iodine use

habibihabibi · 06/04/2020 16:32

I have a nebulizer from when DC and I used get allergic asthma in a damp house (mould) but the nebul solution were on prescription. Is there over the counter stuff that can be used with them ?

justanotherneighinparadise · 06/04/2020 16:34
