Before the lockdown I checked our supplies Vitamin C, Zinc, Calpol and adult paracetamol. I topped up where necessary and added in echinacea tablets and cough drops. I bought a salt inhaler which I’ve read can build up lungs (asthma family) which we’ve been using although possibly just a fad. Anyone else looked at their home medicine kits?

We've got a sats monitor, peak flow meter & blood pressure monitor.

DS & I have asthma & DH has high blood pressure.

All are managed well & ds seems to be outgrowing his asthma but we're keeping on top of his brown inhaler & have 3 new blue inhalers just in case.

Having monitors helps when you have to speak to a doctor over the phone.

My medicine cupboard is always well stocked.

Oximeter
Blood pressure monitor
Oxygen
Salt pipe
Paracetamol
A selection of vitamins that I've started taking

I didn't have any of that stuff before, well I probably had some paracetamol.

KenDodd · 06/04/2020 16:53

I've also started exercising and eating better. I heard a doctor on the radio a while ago saying we're probably all going to get this at some point and you need to be as fit and healthy as you can be to give you the best chance against it.

katkit · 06/04/2020 16:59

these I keep in, but I’ve done an anxious check around, and we have:

Paracetamol, lots of supplements, a mattress protector, pillow protectors, oral rehydration salts, oil burner, olbas oil, karvol, sports watch with heart rate function.

loumoo · 06/04/2020 17:12

These have really got me thinking!
We have a peak flow kicking about and will dig it out.
Oximeter is an amazing shout for stats should we have to phone for advice!

Google Chromecast so the afflicted can at least watch box sets on something bigger than a phone

ShimmerandShining · 06/04/2020 17:31

Huge amounts of Sambucol for prophylaxis

jimmyhill · 06/04/2020 17:39

Originally a four-day supply of paracetamol, but going to treble that I think

VanGoghsDog · 06/04/2020 17:45

My medicine box and food stores are all fine, but I did buy a thermometer.

And today disposable gloves came and ethanol which I have put in a spray bottle to use on anything that comes into the house.

Also, I have done a living will - not 100% valid due to not being able to get signature witnessed but at least lets my family know my preferences, and I've posted that off to mum and sister.

rc22 · 06/04/2020 17:46

Two packs of paracetamol. These are hidden from my husband as he pops them like sweeties whenever he gets the slightest headache. In normal times, if I get flu or have particularly bad period pains I go to the bathroom cabinet and find the box full of empty blister packets.

Anyway there is now a packet in my sock drawer and a packet in my knicker drawer. If husband gets symptoms and has to self-isolate, I’ll share the location of one of the packets with him.

We have also saved all our tinned soup in case we get poorly.

TellySavalashairbrush · 06/04/2020 17:48

As someone in recovery I’d recommend a thermometer, paracetamol and Gaviscon.

pasanda · 06/04/2020 17:53

Pulse oximeter, inhaler, gaviscon, zinc and vit c tablets, loads of paracetamol, lemsip, strepsils and other cough sweets, nytol, tissues, ice pops and easy to hold water bottles and orange drinks. New digital thermometer. Extra san pro.

None of us have been ill.....yet Confused

AnnaMagnani · 06/04/2020 17:54

Batteries for the thermometer
Pulse oximeter - taught DH to use it as I'm not mucking about with 111. If either of our sats are dropping to 92 then it's 999 straight away.
A week's worth of ready meals in the freezer

Standrewsschool · 06/04/2020 17:57

Paracetamol, tins, long-life milk. - not specifically for corona but more for brexit concerns

UYScuti · 06/04/2020 17:57

great thread idea OP, so far I have olbas oil and my trusty neti pot, will look into the other essentials mentioned!

Undecided91 · 06/04/2020 17:58

Paracetamol, cough medicine, calpol and inhaler (we dont have astma but thought it would help of we do get it)

ShastaBeast · 06/04/2020 18:00

We didn’t use much paracetamol/calpol as no fever (if we indeed had it). No cough medicine but it may have been soothing.

Already had a peak flow and blood pressure monitor but didn’t really use them. Although reassuring to have. Didn’t use dehydration or diarrhoea meds but had them already. Panic bought melatonin gummies from the states before the flights all got cancelled. But not specifically for covid.

Cornettoninja · 06/04/2020 18:14

I got paracetamol/calpol, a thermometer, vicks for chests/steam inhalation, diarolyte and lots of easy foods. I couldn’t get hold of any zinc in the end but did want to start the house on that.

emmathedilemma · 06/04/2020 18:34

Nothing.....

Darbs76 · 06/04/2020 18:36

Paracetamol. That’s it. I’ve got a serious pancreas disease so if I catch it I don’t think I’m going to worry about vitamins etc. I do worry as I am a single mum with no family. My son is 15 though so could take over. A friend could drop off shopping. I hope it doesn’t come to it. I’m taking no chances

Barbararara · 06/04/2020 18:45

Honey for soothing sore or inflamed throats (Coughs tend to be a vicious cycle where you cough and irritate your throat, then cough because your throat is irritated).

Marshmallows for ds who won’t take honey. It’s not as good, but it helps a little bit to suck on a marshmallow.

I cooked a lot of soup for the freezer.

blobbyface · 06/04/2020 19:06

Er.... nothing. I always have paracetamol in the cupboard.

bobstersmum · 06/04/2020 19:07

Contemplating begging the pharmacy for Malaria drugs!

Neverenoughcoffee · 06/04/2020 19:45

Rehydrating/ mineral replacement sachets
Salt pipe and iodine ( already had)

Cut down on dairy as it's mucous forming
Asked everyone not to take fever reducers
