What mask should I buy to wear to supermarket?

Could anyone in the know about this sort of thing help me. I want either disposable or reusable, fits well and easy to remove without contaminating face.
Recommendations gratefully received. I’m not crafty so would be rubbish at making one.

I think you will find it very hard to get hold of one now as they were sold out over a month ago.

The best one to get is a FFP3 mask which filters out the most particles and creates a seal around your mouth and nose. Please note these need to be fitted by an expert to be most effective but can obviously still be worn by Joe Public.

You can also get FFP1 and FFP2 masks which have filters but don't necessarily create a seal around your mouth.

The most common are the blue/white disposable surgical masks you will most likely see people wearing. These offer the least protection but are better than nothing.

I've included 3 images to demonstrate the types of masks available.

I personally have the FFP3 one shown last.

You can get more friendlier looking FFP3 masks but these will obviously be harder to come by these days.

Just keep your distance, nothing you can buy at the moment will give you protection from breathing in particles but putting a normal scarf over your mouth can reduce particles emitted by you if you cough or sneeze getting into the air. I've seen some crazy outfits including a guy with scuba equipment in Aldi - the man forgot about covering his nose!

You can DIY a face shield out of a plastic 2L pop bottle with some tape and something to make the headband too. Cardboard will do.

Look on Youtube for videos of how to do it.

Shopping for essentials is one of the reasons to leave home.

Masks are effective. The CDC in America is now recommending people wear them and other countries around the world are doing the same.

I wouldn't wait for our government to act. They've been slow to act on every major issue during the crisis whether it be closing schools, getting more ventilators or ensuring our NHS staff have much needed PPE.

I have black masks on order for me to use for work and a Virustatic shield for shopping www.virustaticshield.com/ I'd seen them on the local news and my boss came in with one on to replace my keyboard the other day, so two of us ordered them after work. Hope they come soon.

My Virustatic shield arrives tomorrow. Can't wait. I ordered it one week earlier so they are pretty quick getting them out.

Masks protect others from you.

If your displaying symptoms then you shouldn't be out

Otherwise, keep your distance, don't touch your face, wash your hands

Unless you are caring for someone there is no evidence that you need a mask or that it will stop a droplet borne virus
