Exercising whilst symptomatic?

MummyPop00 · 06/04/2020 12:11

I’m on day 7 of symptoms, knew it was Covid 5 days ago.

I have experienced no fever, just have a slight wheeze on the chest, my energy levels are ok really, maybe a very slight dip, nothing more than that.

What’s the opinion on doing a bit of (light) cardio to keep the lungs in fighting shape whilst having mild symptoms (so far).

I’ve not done any exercise since day 2 of symptoms, so 5 days ago now...

Nothing I can see in government self isolation guidelines prevents you from exercising unless I’m reading it wrong/missing something?

All of the information I've read says it's really important to rest as much as possible.

IrisAtwood · 06/04/2020 12:13

If you feel well enough then it would be a good idea, as well as doing some deep breathing exercises.

IrisAtwood · 06/04/2020 12:15

@kingkuta It depends on your symptoms. With a fever you do need to rest and probably wouldn’t feel like exercising anyway,

Nothing prevents you from exercising in your own home at any point. Staying active is generally held to be good, but stop straightaway of breathlessness worsens unduly or you feel off in any other way.

If it has been over 7 days and you are now totally symptom free, you can leave your home for any purpose which is currently permitted by the lockdown rules.

nether - Technically, the guidance says you can leave your home for exercise when you are self-isolating with symptoms:

I find this bizarre tbh

MummyPop00 · 06/04/2020 12:25

Yeah that’s exactly what I mean Pebbles. Not what you’d expect is it?

Nothing to stop me going out for a short bike ride, even though I’m symptomatic! (Though I won’t be doing!) I’ll probably stick to the stairs indoors!

I would be very careful. I did a bit of light exercise thinking I was ok and it set me back a few days. I would rest as much as you can - I'd give it to day 10 because I think it appears after that day you're out of the woods in terms of the worst of it, even if it's mild.

Please don't, it can damage your heart to exercise with a virus.
