At some point UK would also need to do it. We can’t live in lockdown all the time.

lubeybooby · 06/04/2020 12:18

Not surprised, they have been doing well. We're not though in the UK

GirlCalledJames · 06/04/2020 12:19

Austria locked down after the first death. They have surplus hospital beds usually and had a stockpile of medical masks. They test arriving patients in tents in front of the hospital and you don’t go inside unless your COVID19 status is known.
It’s very good news for Austria, but other countries aren’t doing the same so won’t follow the same path.

Crackerofdoom · 06/04/2020 12:20

Austria locked down very quickly and there has been a high level of compliance here.

Very little panic buying and the state stepped in early to support businesses.

We also have a very well-funded healthcare system and relatively low population density

TheCanterburyWhales · 06/04/2020 12:22

That's good news.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 06/04/2020 12:22

Good news at last.

emkana · 06/04/2020 12:28

I know you can't compare countries but at least there's some light at the end of the tunnel.

A very different set of issues to us, but great news for them :)

heathspeedwell · 06/04/2020 12:34

Lovely to start hearing these more positive stories. I know we're a long way off our peak here but it's interesting to see how other countries will manage easing restrictions.

thatgingergirl · 06/04/2020 12:35

It is good news. We will all get there.

LuckyMarmiteLover · 06/04/2020 12:39

Great news thank you Smile

PristineCondition · 06/04/2020 12:43

Good news, the soft staggered approach seems well thought out

ShanghaiDiva · 06/04/2020 12:44

That is good news.

Frankiecandle · 06/04/2020 12:46

That is good news and gives me hope.

PomBearsyummy · 06/04/2020 12:46

My opinion is that they are trying to increase capacity in the NHS as much as they can ditto capacity for testing. Once done we might start to see some restrictions dropping away. Ideally the antibody tests will be up and running too but its not looking very good on that front.

ToTheVetsWeGo · 06/04/2020 13:02

Thanks for the good news. Be interesting to see what happens next

pocketem · 06/04/2020 13:06

China has just re-opened its tourist attractions including the Great Wall and the Terracotta Army. It's not going well...

ShanghaiDiva · 06/04/2020 13:12

Not much evidence of social distancing there on this three day weekend!

Appuskidu · 06/04/2020 13:33

Omg @pocketemis that today?!

Permanantlypuzzled · 06/04/2020 13:34

The photo from the Great Wall closely resembles a scene from a London underground station..
The rest of us are keeping the 6ft distance but some others seem to be immune.

Badoukas · 06/04/2020 14:02

Austria has got that right re mask wearing.

Matildathehun77 · 06/04/2020 14:08

This IS good news, thanks for sharing. Austria is low in the tables because they're in a very different position to us but if you look, there are slow, cautious signs of recovery around. Italy, Spain and France seem to be stabilising a bit, some countries are lifting lockdown so yes the signs are there, we WILL get there, slowly but surely. Still need to be sensible in the meantime though, I think that's possibly why people are afraid of "good news" they think that it'll make people stop listening and rush around to the nearest pub!!

Matildathehun77 · 06/04/2020 14:09

China has just re-opened its tourist attractions including the Great Wall and the Terracotta Army. It's not going well

But this is a perfect example of why restrictions are going to need to be lifted, very slowly..... and perhaps we all need to use a bit more common sense?

ShanghaiDiva · 06/04/2020 15:41

China did lift restrictions slowly and now believe that most new infections are coming from outside the country (hence closing the border). Yesterday’s figures shows 75 new cases of which 38 were imported.
Anyway, regardless of figures the picture shows that many people are clearly bonkers.
