Vaccinations when pregnant

Would usually get vaccinated for flu and whooping cough when pregnant. Told by GP surgery today they’re not doing flu for pregnant women now and she wasn’t sure about whooping cough. I know it’s not flu season so guess I shouldn’t worry? Should I? Does anyone know if you can still get whooping cough? Thanks for any info.

I’m supposed to be having the whooping cough vaccine tomorrow when I go in for a growth scan (29 weeks, had flu jab back in January) so can let you know what happens if you like?

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 06/04/2020 09:26

I would and I did. If they offer them, take them.

RhymingRabbit3 · 06/04/2020 09:27

I think they only do the fly jab from September to March but I would definitely want to have whooping cough one, so do double check

mamaof2girls · 06/04/2020 09:34

Go surgery's seem not to be giving these jags to pregnant people anymore don't know why I found this out with this pregnancy you have to go to the hospital for them I didn't know this but apparently after your 20 week scan at the hospital you can get it but I didn't know this till I went to my midwife after the scan! But defo would get the whooping but you can only get it up to a certain amount off weeks so would defo try and find out soon as possible how it works in your area! X

I was the same re the flu jab; the timing of my pregnancy meant that I didn't need it / couldn't get it. You should have whooping cough though; maybe ask your midwife? Mine was done at the hospital rather than GP surgery.

We are still vaccinating everyone. Apart from flu as the season for that has ended and our PGD isn't valid to vaccinate for flu now. Definitely still doing the whooping cough one.

Oh I'm a Practice Nurse. Some areas trialled doing them at the 20 week scan as it gave a better uptake because people were already there. But not all areas have commissioned this, most still have it from the GP surgery.
