Watching morning television (god help me)

Piers Morgan and now Lorraine up in arms about the Scottish CMO going to her second home. Totally understandable.

BUT

AIBU to find it infuriating that no one is seeing the hypocrisy that the Queen, Charles and at possibly many others members of the RF literally did the exact same thing.

Their actions have just as much impact as the CMO. They are meant to be held as an example, and many people hold them to that, whether they like it or not.

Oh Christ now Lorraine is falling over herself to say how 'Pitch perfect' the speech was. Two minutes after berating the CMO.

How is it any different???

they shifted well before the lockdown though, chose a place and stuck to it not the same as the scottish idiot

BurgerQuean · 06/04/2020 09:14

I don’t think it’s an issue the queen being at Windsor. She went there before the lockdown started, and she hadn’t moved to a rural area where she will place more strain on local services, which is the main issue with people going to their second homes.

I agree the others have been more problematic. The Cambridges shouldn’t have gone to Anmer Hall and Charles shouldn’t have gone to Balmoral.

Didn't they leave on the day before the lockdown? Scuttling away to the countryside when we had already all been told by then not to do that.

What the royals have done is despicable. Charles flying to Scotland after developing symptoms is completely indefensible and should be a national scandal (if Meghan wearing nail varnish was a scandal this certainly should be!).

jay55 · 06/04/2020 09:16

The top royals were split up strategically in a time of crisis. The Queen didn't do a midnight flit somewhere rural off her own back.

RarePackOfLooRoll · 06/04/2020 09:16

Windsor is the queens main hone. Buckingham Palace us moreifgucual, like her work.
Either way both the Queen and Prince Charles went to where they are now before lock down started and have stayed there, do not moving between residences either.

How is it any different???

The timeline.

Titslikepicassos · 06/04/2020 09:18

RF moved prior to lockdown and aren’t standing in front of the country every afternoon telling the public to stay at home.

ilovecakeandwine · 06/04/2020 12:05

They haven't been going from one house to another and back again like Dr Calderwood.
They may have moved earlier on but stayed where they are now .

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 06/04/2020 12:11

The Queen moved before lockdown.

I think the Cambridges moved when Thomas schools closed, which was before lockdown.

POW dates were iffy though - day of lockdown? Or deffo after?

Al have however stayed put and there has been no to-ing and fro-ing

GirlCalledJames · 06/04/2020 12:14

I read that the Royals were moved to residences in which they could live with the fewest number of staff, to enable as many of their staff to isolate as possible.
I’m in favour of a republic myself but I suspect some kind of strategy went into the decision.

AppleKatie · 06/04/2020 12:21

I have absolutely no problem with the royals being strategically moved around/apart for the good of them and their staff. It’s pointless to suggest that the things they do impact on local services in the way the things you or I do. They don’t engage with local services in the same way. They are not popping to Tesco or presenting at A&e with the rest of the population so it simply isn’t the same.

Also they went once it was clear that lockdown would be happening and haven’t moved since so fair do’s.

The Scottish CMO did not do the same thing and I’m astonished that she thought it would be perceived well.
