Fastest wedding time?

One of my DC is vulnerable for a number of reasons, and he’s worrying about his girlfriend being left behind if anything were to happen. The lack of funerals and closure is also causing anxiety. They are both late twenties. I know it’s almost impossible for it to happen, but to protect them financially and legally, how quickly could they get married, without the need for ceremonies etc?

I think all marriages are banned at the moment?

If the lockdown measures cease could they get up to Gretna?

ViciousJackdaw · 06/04/2020 01:20

Are there any DC or shared assets? If not, I'm not entirely sure what the point of getting married is right now.

Beldon · 06/04/2020 01:20

It is no faster to get married at Gretna than anywhere else in the country.

Hi there
Wedding co-ordinator here. Unfortunately all weddings are cancelled until further notice as it would legally require 5 people present :0(

They can't get married at present.
For protection legally they could get a will done - that can be completed in days. It won't give them the full rights as a married couple but will give them a lot of legal protection.
Wills and probate solicitors are classed as key workers and are working through this. Dh is doing many new wills and trusts at present for people in similar positions.

By the way there are funerals. They are still allowed to go ahead. At FIL's funeral this week we are allowed 10 people there.

Thanks- think we will try to sort out wills. I’m probably DS3’s next of kin still, he wants everything to go to GF and I’m more than happy for that to happen. Haven’t really processed it yet, we were stunned when he got the shielding letter. Everything crossed that we’ll all get through Sad

You can do a free basic Will online and print it off. It will need signing with 2 witnesses.
Better than nothing.

Please be wary of doing a DIY will.
Most wills and probate solicitors will tell you they make more money sorting out badly prepared will, especially DIY wills, during probate than they do writing a proper personalised will in the first place.
Some of the DIY wills available are dreadful and cause more problems than they solve.
