Furlough

My employer doesn't know much about furlough, so looking for some advice.

My work is and will continue through the pandemic, as it's a medical centre.

I have asthma and take a steroid inhaler daily. I don't call under high risk, so I have t received a letter. BUT my employer who is a doctor has said if I wish to self isolate for 12 weeks, I can, and they will support me and my job will remain safe.

Does this qualify for furlough? Or is it just for companies who close during this time as not classes as essential?

Thanks

Furloughing is only available where there is no work to be done. So if your job remains open and needed then you can’t be furloughed.

@Paintforkitchen thank you. I thought this was the case, but wasn't entirely sure as it's all confusing atm.
Is this the same if you received a letter telling you to stay hime for 12 weeks?

If you are being told you have to self isolate for 12 weeks you can be furloughed. The letters going out to the shielded group explain about that. But if you are choosing to self isolate it is a grey area. As I can see from the current advice you are not covered, but that may change. Look at yougov.uk site that has information on this.
