"Matt Hancock told the BBC's Andrew Marr that the government would "take action" if further measures are needed to bring the coronavirus under control.

It comes after reports of groups of people gathering in parks during sunny weather this weekend."

So do we think this will happen - normally this is how it goes, the threat comes, and a week later it's reality. It's a shame that people still flouted the rules this weekend :(

I can't see a thread on this already but please let me know if there is one!!

OP posts:
LavenderQuartz · 05/04/2020 11:57

No @mindproject vast majority die from it (maybe) but could pass it fro someone who will.....all for the sake of a run in the park?

LavenderQuartz · 05/04/2020 11:57

And I say that as a runner myself

LilacTree1 · 05/04/2020 11:58

cake in where?

AgeLikeWine · 05/04/2020 11:58

As always in human societies, the 1% of morons ruin everything for the 99% of sensible, responsible decent people.

echt · 05/04/2020 11:58

And as others have said - all of us will suffer because they are twats

It's like the biggest whole-class detention going, and we all know what MNers think of those.

Utter shite, and the response of an ineffective government.

Newgirls · 05/04/2020 11:59

I agree mindproject

I don’t see anyone around here and pals in London are posting pics of empty parks. This is a strategy so we blame each other

mindproject · 05/04/2020 11:59

LilacTree - there are enough of us. But many are too afraid to say anything. Mumsnet is crawling with agents and Freemasons. It's difficult to have a proper conversation on here now.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 05/04/2020 12:01

Thing is, I'm out for a lot of the day (self employed, doing deliveries now as per government guidance, plus a bit of dog walking as exercise). I've seen barely anyone breaking the rules, either while driving around doing deliveries or in the park.

Why should DDog suffer because a tiny minority of people are breaking the rules?

I've been following the rules (as hard as it is), but this would actually make me go "fuck it" and keep walking DDog, and risk a fine. I'll suffer the financial penalty so he doesn't have to suffer with no idea why he isn't getting his usual walk.

Splodgetastic · 05/04/2020 12:01

I am sure that policy wonks will be keeping an eye on websites such as this one. If they think they can get away with it they will. We need to make it known that they will be facing massive civil disobedience instead. Instead of clapping for the NHS which was already f*ed or clapping for children, why not join in clapping for civil liberties at 5pm tomorrow, Monday?

LilacTree1 · 05/04/2020 12:02

mind the only Freemason I know is out all day but perhaps she has protection.

So you think posters are too scared to question measures? I’ve already written to my local MP. Questioning of something is democracy surely?

Devlesko · 05/04/2020 12:02

Maybe they should send troops and Police and start fining and much higher than £30, what sort of deterrent is that.
I reckon at least 1k.
We will be the worst hit country as the others have all had armed services out on the street, and we haven't.

Streets in Spain and Italy are empty, as are parks and beaches. It's only the people in the UK who are idiots. Maybe when we get to 20 odd k dead, people might listen.

reiki21 · 05/04/2020 12:02

Approaching this from a completely different perspective. How many of you have family on the front lines? I do. This week alone the NHS and the country lost two brave and selfless young Mums to the virus who were doing everything they could as nurses to help people survive. We have family in various jobs. Nurse practioner, midwife, paramedic all working on with scant PPE. (They aren't allowed to don their PPe unless working with someone who has been tested and is positive for the virus) It doesn't stop them or their colleagues responding to a person who may or may not be Covid 19 positive. Why do these people think my family is expendable ? Will they still feel that way when they roll up to the hospital unable to breathe and there aren't sufficient staff to attend to them because they are all on self isolation or worst case scenario critically ill or dead ? No excuses. There are none. Get a grip. Stop thinking 'me me me ' 'I can't' 'I'm being stopped from' . You need to be grownups. Spread the message 'Stay home. Stay Safe. Protect the NHS and our amazing, courageous people out there trying to end this for all our sakes'. Don't be selfish.

batvixen123 · 05/04/2020 12:03

@LilacTree1 - it's just so shit isn't it? I have schizoaffective bipolar disorder. I have never felt so hopeless about what that means before.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 05/04/2020 12:03

In for your thread Lilac, although I fear we may be hunted down and killed!

mindproject · 05/04/2020 12:04

There are 500 people to very 1 police officer. If everyone carries on going out for exercise (while keeping distance from others) they can't stop everyone. And it's pointless trying to stop everyone going out to exercise when millions of people are still going out to work every day. Are they going to stop that too?

They do not care about saving the lives.

JulietTango · 05/04/2020 12:04

I think what we have is a halfway between the herd immunity the government wanted and the total lockdown the rest of the country wanted.

MigginsMrs · 05/04/2020 12:04

I think it’s unfair on the many areas of the uk that have space and v low covid cases. They are being penalised for busy urban area behaviour. One size fits all seems madness

I agree, we should have more tailored regional responses. How easy this is with zero testing though I don’t know

Frouby · 05/04/2020 12:04

The easiest way to deal with it is to punish those that flout the rules with a fine or criminal punishment. Then the rest of us can just carry on behaving.

They won't ban exercise. They know how important it is for so many reasons. They haven't even closed non essential business yet. Manufacturers and construction still going. Can you imagine the uproar if we are only allowed out to work? There will be riots and civil unrest. Especially as there is no exit strategy yet.

I can see restrictions on movement beyond your postcode being brought in and also fines for those that are caught loitering/sunbathing/picnicking. Which is fair and reasonable in many peoples minds. But banning exercise won't be deemed fair and reasonable as it's not and Matt Hancock was clear this morning that they thought the majority of people were following the rules. They won't risk punishing the majority for the stupidity and selfishness of a few. We aren't communists and they will want votes as well.

waterlego · 05/04/2020 12:05

but getting vitamin D from the sun is a good thing.

Yes it is, but you don’t need to sunbathe to get the Vit D benefit from the sun. Between 10-30 minutes of exposure a few times a week is enough; and amount of exposure should depend on your skin’s sensitivity to sunlight.

mindproject · 05/04/2020 12:05

1% of morons ruin everything for the 99% of sensible

This is true, but the morons are the elites, not your next-door-neighbour. Stop believing everything they tell you.

MigginsMrs · 05/04/2020 12:06

They do not care about saving the lives.

Correct they just don’t want everyone to get ill and risk dying at once. It’s just about slowing the spread to minimise the impact on the NHS, not stopping it altogether

Sounsociable · 05/04/2020 12:06

I love exercising outside and my DH and i have taken it in turns to exercise with kids or they join me for part of a run and do a shortcut home . When I run I will run in the middle if the road (obvs when safe) if needed to get appropriate distance but some people look like they make no attempt at all to keep distance. People walking 2 abreast on the pavement with a dog making no effort at all to go in single file for a few seconds.

But I would stick to tighter rules if it meant it was safer for everyone and (a semblance of) normality could return quicker. We are in a similar position to pp where our business will not survive more than a month or 2 of lockdown.
However it's pretty galling that AFTER the lockdown/social distancing measures, prime ministers QT and parliament met seemingly with no regard for the 2m rule.

Sounsociable · 05/04/2020 12:08

I do wonder how and where the resources are going to come from to enforce tighter rules though.

Marieo · 05/04/2020 12:09

It will be unfortunate, as with anything unfortunately some selfish, arrogant people ruin it for everyone. Plenty of exercises to do in the house or garden though just for now, it's people in flats or without gardens who will be affected the most, I feel for them.

TeacupDrama · 05/04/2020 12:09

I think it will be more like France 1 hour a day within 1 mile of home only and stopping cycling just a run or walk
if everyone does 1 hour between 8am -8pm that is only 8% of population out at once max but if people stay out 2 hours that doubles the number of people around at any one time, it is the sily people who think they can go for a 10 mile hike or 50 miles cycle ride or arrange to meet their mates for collective walk in walk that spoil it for everyone, people who think their dog matters more than people so they can go out twice and for longer than everyone else
