www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52172035

"Matt Hancock told the BBC's Andrew Marr that the government would "take action" if further measures are needed to bring the coronavirus under control.

It comes after reports of groups of people gathering in parks during sunny weather this weekend."

So do we think this will happen - normally this is how it goes, the threat comes, and a week later it's reality. It's a shame that people still flouted the rules this weekend :(

I can't see a thread on this already but please let me know if there is one!!

OP posts:

I couldn't agree more @sansasnark

ThusSpoke · 05/04/2020 12:35

I think the shock won't be mine.
It will be the people finding the excuses to justify their 3 hour runs/ bike rides / dog walks / or family exercise (day trips)

Yep.

Mydogdoesntlisten · 05/04/2020 12:38

daisypond- I meant with Covid cases. I understand other services have suffered. But will a total lockdown suddenly mean that the virus disappears? Even if it
reduces to a very low level, surely we then have to sustain the lockdown until a vaccine is available. So 12- 18 months of only leaving the house for essential shopping?

TestBank · 05/04/2020 12:39

People who are deluded enough to believe it is a virus we just get rid of by all staying in for three weeks have a tenuous grasp on reality I am afraid. However it seems to make them happy to imagine all the non existent police rounding up their neighbours, so who am I to burst their bubble?

Cam77 · 05/04/2020 12:41

@SansaSnark
They sure can try but people won’t buy it. If when this is all done Britain ends up being among the most badly affected countries I honestly don’t see a way for them to spin out of it.
When this is over though, every European nation will need to ask itself why they responsed so ineffectually. Why do European deaths per million number 20 times those in S.Korea and Japan?

Dances · 05/04/2020 12:41

Blakes Absolutely spot on. And people on here are far too quick to finger point at dog walkers rather than asking why their own government has failed to protect them. Doctors and nurses are passing on this virus because they don't have PPE or tests. And they are dying.

And btw, are these entitled dog owners supposed to just let their dogs shit on the floor?

PrimeraVez · 05/04/2020 12:41

@FaFoutis of course people have dogs in Dubai Confused

The Saluki breed is indigenous to the region. As is the Arabian Mau cat.

BraceYourselfEffie · 05/04/2020 12:41

Yep. We will have to live with restrictions of some sort for months, with the virus itself for years.

Eastie77 · 05/04/2020 12:42

Just reading that over 3,000 fuckers were sunbathing in a park a couple of miles from me yesterday and the council has now closed the park. What is wrong with people.

SansaSnark · 05/04/2020 12:42

FWIW, I do think lying on the grass is more of a risk than just walking/running/cycling- because if you lie down, whilst shedding the virus, it could survive there for a short period, and someone else could lie in the same spot and pick it up. This is probably more of a risk in busy urban parks than on, say, Dartmoor.

However, it's significantly less of a risk than working in a warehouse/factory/construction site all day!

I live in a small flat with no outside space, and I do get how tough it is, though.

SnoozyLou · 05/04/2020 12:42

I think the government are trying to push a narrative that will blame individuals for deaths to try and cover up their own failings, and we should be very wary of buying into that narrative (whilst still continuing to follow sensible social distancing rules).

I do agree to some extent. We will all ultimately have to pay for the government's nonchalant attitude to coronavirus, which let's not forget went on for the best part of 2 months.

Nevertheless, do you see the Italians sunbathing and taking picnics while the bodies mount in the mortuaries? No. Not only are these people putting others at risk, but it's pretty disrespectful to all the people who have no choice but to go into work and put themselves at risk, tackling a problem that is only being exacerbated by those doing stupid, selfish shit like this.

ilovecakeandwine · 05/04/2020 12:44

Exactly @Blakes77
The government knew this virus beginning of this year but did they do anything no .
People freely able to fly across the world now this virus it's across the world.
Yes we can all do our bit but we are
No school
Most of us no work
Most of us 20% pay cut
Queuing to get food
Will we even have a job in a few weeks ?
Can't see family/ friends
Now the suggestion of no exercise .
Yes sunbathing and going to the shop for every little thing not necessary but the the majority of us are observing the rules so are not selfish.
If you want to blame someone blame the government not me because I want to to go for a run once a day .

Cam77 · 05/04/2020 12:44

@TestBank
Obviously the answer isn’t just staying indoors for a few weeks (but try 8 weeks rather 3 weeks). However total active cases in Japan, SKorea and China now just number from 1,000-3,000. This thing is beatable.

justasking111 · 05/04/2020 12:44

It really ticks me off, here in my neck of the woods, North Wales apart from the odd holiday maker sneaking in via back roads, we are all following advice. Why should we be punished for the idiots in the cities behaviour.

I really thought the government would allow the terminally stupid to keep mixing socially so that when they shuffled off the country would be better without them.

mummmy2017 · 05/04/2020 12:46

ilovecakeandwine the solution is to stay home, so your part of the problem.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 05/04/2020 12:48

Just reading that over 3,000 fuckers were sunbathing in a park a couple of miles from me yesterday and the council has now closed the park. What is wrong with people.

The things is though that closing parks just displaces the pressure on other parks and spaces. The people who couldn't get won't still won't stay in, but the neighboring parks will get even worse.

We have been neglecting our parks for decades and now we are paying the price.

boringrobot · 05/04/2020 12:48

A bit stupid to ban exercise when the borders are still open and flights are still landing from China, Italy etc.

wanderings · 05/04/2020 12:48

@sansasnark I think the government are trying to push a narrative that will blame individuals for deaths to try and cover up their own failings, and we should be very wary of buying into that narrative (whilst still continuing to follow sensible social distancing rules).
Louder, please! We need more people saying this.

TroysMammy · 05/04/2020 12:49

Woman in work with me thinks it's acceptable to drive after work, husband picks her up, to go and play tennis on council tennis courts. This woman, we are GP Receptionists, has worn a mask, plastic apron and anti bacs her hands constantly, even after washing them with soap and water after going to the toilet.

MyMagicStars · 05/04/2020 12:49

I think we’ll end up with the 1km rule- DD4 has ADHD and anxiety and runs daily, luckily we have a garden. We live rurally; DD says she’s never seen so many new runners...

Cremebrule · 05/04/2020 12:50

There needs to be provision for people in flats to get out and I think the measures do probably need to vary locally. Largely people are sticking to them in my village. I’d be more worried about people breaking quarantine than those going out for a walk and sunbathe.

ilovecakeandwine · 05/04/2020 12:50

lovecakeandwine the solution is to stay home, so your part of the problem.

No I'm not we are told we can exercise once a day . I'm not even doing that today I'm staying home .
I'm not the one sunbathing ffs
Why why why do people keep saying that you shouldn't be going out but the rules are you can go out to exercise.
The going out in groups / sunbathing is the problem not going for a run on your own .
Also FYI I have friends who work for the nhs and they also run go for walks .

Mydogdoesntlisten · 05/04/2020 12:51

Mummy2017- how do you think it is the solution? It will reduce cases, yes, but not eliminate them I don't think. So lockdown continues until we get a vaccine?

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 12:51

Not sure about this. Some will flout it but we need to have a second wave anyway and these are earlier takers.

Vitamin D and fresh air is really important for people in flats.
