Another corona question

Where did the 12 weeks figure come from?
I get the 2 week incubation period.
Then maybe 2-3 weeks to be over it?
Going to make some assumptions of "average family = 2 parents and 3 kids"
Also, people in same house are more likely to have it in "2 groups". First is person who brings in home, second is rest of family, 2 weeks later.
So 6 or 7 weeks in total?
What is the reasoning for 12 weeks?
Genuine question , not a criticism or anything

Because saying 6 months is too much for most people. It was most likely an arbitrary amount of time to allow the peak of cases to subside. It may get extended
