Why the hell are construction sites reopening next week?

I have 4 builders on my fb. All of them have been recalled to work next week.

2 are working on the same site building houses
1 is on another site and I don’t know where the other works

Have they just quietly decided to reopen them after the uproar when they didn’t close at lockdown?

More understandable than the ruddy garden centres being open, a haven for the elderly to pass covid around while chatting with Ethel over the ivy

Garden centres often have building yards.... selling construction and landscaping items

Not just flowers

@joystir59

So that people can go to work and earn a living?
This. You can't just close everything and expect people to sit at home with no income for months on end, especially when the work is low risk.

My DH is an agricultural engineer working with farm buildings, he was furloughed last year only because they couldn’t get supplies but this time they are remaining open, all office staff are back to working from home but DH works by himself, outside so no reason for him not to be at work, I would much rather that than worry about his job security
