Until we are issued what is deemed an essential shopping item ANY food/drink item is ok to buy.
I’ve been working today outside. It’s hot.
On my way home I stopped at my local independent shop & bought myself 2 bottles of cold beer.
I live alone & work alone & it felt great to chat with the shop owner (2m apart) .
When I left the shop a cyclist said me ‘ hardly an essential item is it’

Just stop it .
I’m ashamed of what my fellow human beings have become.

The beer is cold & I shouldn’t be made to feel ashamed for buying it

There are a few posters who seem to channel Mrs Doyle!

I wish the misery guts would shut up to be honest because they're becoming some illogical trump card for anyone selfish who is trying to justify their selfish actions. It's easier to argue with a minority who are clearly being ridiculous in their policing of others as a way to justify ignoring the rules than it is to engage with the 90% of reasonable posters who just think you should shop as infrequently as possible and avoid non-essential journeys.*

Yes!

You missed a bit though Lola

majority : but it's no reasonable to pop to the shop just because you fancy xyz.

another random minority : but someone in my household can, for medical reasons, only eat xyz and I can only buy it in small quantities, is my DH/DS/DD meant to starve?!

I totally don't put them in the same category as the muppets who think you should subsist on dust like from the Hoover nozzle, and it must be a particularly stressful time for them atm, but they fan the flames of the 'I can if I want' group, and often they're the ones the majority are trying to protect!

Cycling, hardly an essential activity is it?

Cycling, hardly an essential activity is it?

For me, yes if you want me to turn up to my frontline job now public transport services have been cut...

WoollySheep462 · 05/04/2020 17:01

However I would say, why not add a couple of beers to your weekly shop?

My mindset is 1 supermarket visit once a week or two weeks.

The other problem with the unreasonable minority is that their loud presence reminds me that I despise a good number of the population that I am socially distancing to protect!

It's a lot easier to voluntarily inconvenience oneself for the greater good when you visualise likeable people's lives being saved.

And if I am getting fucked off, you better believe lots of other people are silently thinking 'well fuck them then'. I care so much about herd immunity, disease control and saving vulnerable people's lives that I got myself vaccinated as an adult against the immunisations I'd missed as the child of anti-vaxxer parents. I have been following social distancing rules since February, because I was so concerned by the reports coming out of China! And you are pissing me off.

I have to go to food shop twice a week. Restricted public transport and i dont drive Then there is electric for our key meter but i usually get this on the same trip But if the post office has decided to close it has to be the corner shop.

Cycling, hardly an essential activity is it?

If you commute by bike, it bloody well is.

mencken · 06/04/2020 15:45

cycling is an approved way of getting exercise. Should be done in max group of two, ideally solo, and no stopping to chat/picnic etc. Go out, keep moving, come home, same as walking.

for anyone fat of thinking...
