cov-id or co-vid

I'm watching the daily Downing Street briefing. Why does Michael Gove say 'cov-id 19' while everyone else says 'co-vid 19'?

I know in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter, just wondering if anyone else noticed. Is he saying it right and everyone else saying it wrong?

Gove has a weird pronounciation anyway he presses on the wrong part of a word. He tries too hard to sound posh.

I say co-vid, but cov-id actually makes sense as it's an abbreviation for COronaVIrusDisease.

@NannyR so what he's effectively saying is "COronaV - IrusDisease" which makes no sense... you'd think someone would have a word with him.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, I would say it with a co- to rhyme with go, I presume he is saying it more like co- as in cough. I haven't really noticed how he's saying it though.

I say it with "co" rhyming with go. That's how my state's governor (www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/world-us-canada-52113186) and health director pronounce it, and Dr. Fauci and the Surgeon General. So I assumed that was correct. 🤷

That's how I've heard everyone say it, except Michael Gove who says cov-id. Maybe I'm just imagining it? Lol
