NHS Reusable Face Masks

Is there a reason why medical people and healthcare professionals can't/don't use reusable things like face mask?

Given the current shortages of the disposable ones, I'm just not sure why making reusable ones that can be washed isn't a better idea?

That would make more sense as so many medical staff still don’t have masks. Sanitising them means they can be used safely from 30-50 times.
