Dog boarding and non-refundable deposits during travel bans.

We paid a non refundable deposit to an at home dog boarding company for an Easter break which of course won't now take place. The deposit amount is a third of the overall cost. They won't refund any of it. Is this what other people are finding? Does it make a difference if they want to claim the 80% self employed income?

I cancelled my May holiday a while back, I didn't expect to get any of the non-refundable deposit back (a small business can't produce money from nowhere) but I wrote them a nice email and they'll be happy to credit half the amount against a future booking.
The 80% is income not turnover I believe, so that people in small businesses can live.
