Coronavirus Deniers

Does anyone have a Coronavirus Denier in their life, a relative or someone they know?

I do and to be honest I've had to stop engaging with them on the subject. I've heard 'it's a conspiracy', 'it's a chemical weapon attack' 'I hate being lied to' 'they know more than they're letting on' and conversely, 'the media have a lot to answer for' and 'this is ridiculous'.
It's so wearing. Someone else I know has taken to microwaving their mail for 1min30 'to kill the virus'.
I've told them how dangerous this is.

Is anyone else surrounded by this lunacy? Is it lunacy? I don't know anymore...but I know we're all in the same boat, we're at the mercy of it and we just have to hope to weather the storm. None of us are unscathed.

Yes, unfortunately my managers and a few work colleagues 😡
I’m a support worker and work with vulnerable people. I’m laughed at when trying to distance myself and for the worries I have concerning the virus. My managers work together in a small office 😱
They seem pretty chilled about the situation.

OldUnit · 03/04/2020 22:33

I'm furloughed so I think this is why it's annoying me so much, this isn't something which is happening to other people, a long way away...it here. It's touching us all. I'm worried for my job (and aware I'm in a fortunate position), I just hate the denial.

Someone on my FB keeps sharing shit about how it’s a 5G cover up 😳😳😳 and the vaccines will put microchips in us

She seemed like a fairly sensible person before this. Good job, excels in her fitness hobby, amazing kids who achieve in everything they do.

I do wonder if some people just absolutely cannot cope with something THIS massive. And go into “lalalalala can’t hear you” fingers in ears mode.

jenganinja · 03/04/2020 22:55

Yes a friend of mine. I wonder if it's a form of denial, in order to cope. I just change the subject tbh. She's sent me a few things but I don't respond.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 03/04/2020 23:00

Totally misread the title and thought there was some tights issue I didn't know about...

ValleyClouds · 03/04/2020 23:03

Yes 2 very close relatives

I'm taking it seriously, as I have underlying health

They don't and aren't

I have read the riot act via text and I'm just seething from afar.

Fallsballs · 03/04/2020 23:06

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion IMO.
If someone is annoying you tell them to stop theorising in your company as it upsets you.
I don’t mind hearing all the different theories, life isn’t always straightforward and this has been a big shock to many people and we all deal with things differently.

Daph31 · 03/04/2020 23:11

Yeah my husband. His common line is “well it’s best to get it now”. He thinks everyone is stupid and he’s really clever and no one knows anything except for him

Toothsil · 03/04/2020 23:15

Yes!! DH's grandmother is adamant it's been released as a chemical weapon attack, that the "corrupt" government and doctors are all in league with each other, they're opposing all these rules on us to take away our freedom, they want us all locked away with no rights, doctors are murderers and she's convinced she is going to be abducted from her home but she hasn't said who is going to carry out this abduction. DH just humours her when she starts one of her rants, I never have a clue what to say so I don't say anything!

Toothsil · 03/04/2020 23:16

Imposing, not opposing!

Toothsil · 03/04/2020 23:17

Oh and she's adamant it's just a little virus and all a fuss over nothing, yet refuses to watch the news or read a paper. All her information comes from Enid next door...

thesunwillout · 03/04/2020 23:18

@MotherForkinShirtBalls

I thought the same, that people were wearing 500 denier tights for masks.

croprotationinthe13thcentury · 03/04/2020 23:20

There are deniers and then there are quarantine nuts who spend a voyeuristic amount of time fretting about what others are doing. Personally I am in the middle, attempting to use some common sense, which appears to be in short supply at the present time.

Cam77 · 03/04/2020 23:35

This guy:
"I was at Twickenham [for England v Wales] with the Prime Minister [on Saturday March 7th]," he said. "There was a huge crowd of people there. There is no reason why people should not be going to those events. It is very premature to be talking about things like that."

Oliver Dowden, Culture Secretary
March 9th, 2020
(at this time there were 321 confirmed cases and 5 deaths in the UK, plus 3000+ deaths in China)

On March 7th

Cam77 · 03/04/2020 23:36

was the date of the match (at that time 200+ confirmed UK cases, 3000+ deaths in China)

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 03/04/2020 23:48

thesunwillout I didn't even think about mask potential. Could be confused for bank robbers though Hmm

NotMyProblem202039 · 03/04/2020 23:56

Yes DH is convinced it is caused by 5g and the vaccine contains a microchip... why we are going to microchipped I am yet to determine. Also something about a new world order, Rothchilds and something about a guyin a bat cave Hmm
Yes already an antivaxxer, though I had our DD vaccinated regardless, but I suspect there is going to be some conflict over any future vaccinations now Hmm
