I have a friend with a son who has severe Autism and Down Syndrome, this has absolutely disrupted his whole world and he doesn't understand what's going on.

He will only eat one specific brand of pizza and Heinz Ravioli.

His mum has only been able to get the pizza , not ravioli. She is becoming increasingly worried as too much pizza isn't good for his heart .

They can't get to the shops easily, for example when at school he has 2:1 care. Due to his heart, he is in the vulnerable category.

Is there any way through the power of Mumsnet we can reach out and get them a big supply somehow please?

They live several hundred miles away from me unfortunately- I'm South West and they are near Newcastle.

Thank you so much.

Aren’t tins going to be horrendously expensive to post ?

DuchessOfBeddington · 03/04/2020 18:39

Although I have ever sympathy for your friend, isn’t she concerned that the removal of one specific product causes him to lose half of his diet? What happens if both products are discontinued? Does he just starve?

legofansmum · 03/04/2020 18:50

Very expensive, but their life is so very difficult. He is severely Autistic and just won’t eat, it’s that bad. Most of his routines- which are rigid have been disturbed and he and they are really struggling to cope.
I don’t know if there’s some way through the power of Mumsnet, that we can somehow get a supply to her. Local shops didn’t ha r any and her son is such high risk due to to heart issues- Down Syndrome related.

Thanks for reading

Can you not contact Heinz?

twinkle2306 · 03/04/2020 18:55

Is she paying for these items as they are mega mega expensive to send compared to the price of a tin? Has she spoken to local shops/corner shops.
We haven't had a supply round here for nearly 6 months now!
Could she post on local Facebook sites?

legofansmum · 03/04/2020 18:56

I’ve tweeted them , but no response. I’m not very good with Twitter though and don’t have any influential followers, or indeed many followers at all.

I’m not too sure , I just know they are near crisis point. Life is so difficult as he is a young adult and it’s all very difficult for the family. Meltdowns are very hard.

She definitely needs to post on her local Facebook. I’m sure a lot of people will look in various supermarkets near where they work etc and hand deliver them back to her. Much easier than trying to arrange something on here!

Zombiemum1946 · 03/04/2020 19:00

Her best bet is probably local Facebook mummies groups. As this is likely to go on for a few months, she may find it becomes impossible to continue this diet.

Fallpoetry · 03/04/2020 19:03

Our local coronavirus page on Facebook has been great for this sort of thing, people have been donating if they have it in the cupboard and contacting small shops who have set aside stock.

footprintsintheslow · 03/04/2020 19:05

People may well have this in their cupboards if you ask on local Facebook.

Also how about Amazon. I didn't realise how much food they do.

Cornettoninja · 03/04/2020 19:05

I think she should put an appeal out on her local face book and maybe see if a local food bank would be willing to swap/sell.

It’s very tough for anyone struggling with this issue at the moment.

SerfNTerf · 03/04/2020 19:08

I don't think some of the people responding understand much about autism and restricted food intake.

Some autistic people will literally starve rather than eat the "wrong" food. It's not the same as a neurotypical child being a bit fussy!

Unfortunately I don't have any way to get hold of this specific food item but I agree with the advice to use local social media.

halesie · 03/04/2020 19:11

Hi OP, sorry to hear about your friend's LO. Idk if they're active atm but an initiative was set up on SM a while ago after a big appeal for an autistic boy who needed a specific cup. They're called Little Blue Cup and have a fb page and twitter account, @littlebluecup - would suggest you ask them for help.

If you don't mind putting your twitter handle on here we could give you some retweets to make you more visible to Heinz too?

ShrimpyTheGnome · 03/04/2020 19:12

OP I have three cans...what can I do?

TheReelSlimShady · 03/04/2020 19:15

Some influencers on twitter will be happy to retweet if you contact them - maybe contact some to see if they can get the message out?

legofansmum · 03/04/2020 19:16

Thank you so much , it means a lot.

I just saw her post this evening and my heart went out to her m. Their family life is just so very difficult without Covid 19.

My Twitter name is cath_hipwell

Thank you for the kind offer of two tins. I would PayPal you the postage.

I’ve just messaged little Blue Cup- excellent idea, but they don’t appear to be active at the moment. Received a message saying they are launching again soon.

I'll have a look in my local shops and pop back on here to let you know if I find any.
