How would we know if we need antibiotics?

My friend is really worried about her mum who seems to have symptoms of corona virus. Started with aches and fever for 10 days and now a cough. How do we know it’s not another virus with a secondary infection needing antibiotics?? She is elderly and frail and living by herself

I think you need to ring her gp and discuss her symptoms.

My 2 yo had a cough and a temp. It turned chesty and wasn't improving so I phoned the gp and they prescribed antibiotics over the phone.

She needs to contact her GP.

My line manager was hospitalised earlier this week with suspected Corona. Every single one of the classic symptoms. Tested negative - he has a bacterial chest infection and a bad cold combined. But had his GP not recommended he go to hospital (asthma) he’d still be struggling on at home thinking there was nothing he could do when he really needed antibiotics
