What stupidity will Sunday bring?

It's forecast to be sunny and warm over most of the UK on Sunday. Anyone else dreading what some people will decide to do?

As awful as it sounds, the big open air field near me which is usually heaving in good weather is where one of the huge temporary mortuaries has been erected.

I seriously hope that's a visual deterrent for anyone heading there.

The roads are definitely busier at the moment. Today I went out for the first time in three weeks to just go for a walk with my baby and I was surprised to see the amount of teenagers hanging around. They were keeping their distance from us - but not from each other. I wonder if their parents know they're out in groups or if they have told their parents they're going out for their exercise and meeting up with other people?

Parker231 · 03/04/2020 19:38

Due to the way some idiots are behaving, I would be tightening up the regulations so that there is much more stay at home and less opportunities to come up with exceptions. The police need much stronger powers.

EffOrf · 03/04/2020 19:41

DH went out for his run and didn’t really see many people at all, we do live in a bit of a dull E Midlands town though. It’s very dead here, just a few speeding drivers, I haven’t seen a policeman for over two weeks.

LaneBoy · 03/04/2020 19:42

Normal day for us but I think I will plan our walk to be really early now - we are lucky to live right by a park that has been perfect for socially distant daily walks, it’s mostly quiet but if the sun comes back out it certainly won’t be

BelleSausage · 03/04/2020 19:45

I live in a picturesque village on a steep hill in a beauty spot. All Summer, as soon as the weather is good, motorcyclists use it for time trialing (totally illegally). You can hear them all over the village. They cause horrendous accidents.

One brilliant thing about lockdown is that it had all stopped- or so we thought. Heard a few up on the hill today. Absolute arseholes.

Ragwort · 03/04/2020 19:50

Much is that a streamed performance of Joseph, have you got any details, can’t find anything about it? My absolute favourite show.

PatriciaHolm · 03/04/2020 19:53

@Ragwort it's being streamed on the theshowmustgoon YouTube channel from Andrew Lloyd Webber, from 7pm tonight for 48 hours. They are doing one a week.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 03/04/2020 19:54

The streets are really busy here and it's only 8 degrees today. It seems like a lot of my neighbours who are students have actually come back and are hanging out and driving around.

Jaxhog · 03/04/2020 19:55

Too many people are still in denial, so it will terrible. More people will die as a result.

Aceventura20000 · 03/04/2020 19:57

I’ll be doing what I am doing every day currently. Walk the dog and sit in. However I will venture into the garden if nice and might get pissed

Sunshinesky1981 · 03/04/2020 20:00

Its DS 11th Birthday on Sunday , we will be having cake at home and trying to make the best of it. We are stuck in a flat with no outside space. We go on a quick walk every few days to check on my mum who lives a couple of roads away , she is in the shielded group so shouts hello at us from the window. We will leave some cake on the doorstep for her and top up her gas and electric meter. I am a carer for her and terrified she will catch something from us while we drop shopping/ washing/medication, so we are trying to stay in as much as possible to avoid getting sick -especially as the people in our flats are all quite happily sitting in the communal hall having chats and smoking weed. I'm dreading the warm weather, we are going to be stuck in this flat and cant even open the fucking windows because of the smell of weed Sad

BlackNoir · 03/04/2020 20:02

What are people planning to do themselves.

I'll be nursing ventilated colleagues in ICU for 12 hours.

pigsDOfly · 03/04/2020 20:12

I'll be doing exactly the same as I've been doing since the lockdown began.

I'll be in the house for most of the day and only going out for a walk with the dog in the afternoon. It's pretty quiet here, although meeting far more people now than usual, but it's easy enough to keep our distance.

My only fear is that, when I do my fortnightly shop next week I might be coming across people who haven't been sticking to the rules and risk picking up something from one of them.

The stupid people who break the rules aren't only putting themselves at risk, they're putting us all at risk, which is why the police need to crack down on rule breakers and send them home.

I'm not ready to die because someone in my town wants to go to the beach and have a picnic with their friends.

Yep BIG WAHALLA is my favourite Nigerian saying

Just sums up trouble so well!!

Inkpaperstars · 03/04/2020 23:31

I really hope we see big crackdowns on anyone breaking the rules this weekend. Unfortunately the fine for first offence is hopelessly low.

I can't believe some people will still meet up with extended family or other households! Who are these people and what is wrong with them? I genuinely don't know. My mind is boggling.

I say this as someone who lives in a small flat with no outside space, and has elderly vulnerable relatives I can't see right now, along with pressing medical issues I can't get treatment for. It's not easy. Going out for entertainment value right now is unforgivable. I wonder if people could be punished by forfeiting nhs access for the next decade or longer, would that help?

HeIenaDove · 04/04/2020 01:34

Im willing to bet there is a correlation between those that would go to the beach/second home and the gits who keep using the 2m gap in the supermarket queue to push in.

HeIenaDove · 04/04/2020 01:44

@Sunshinesky1981 IMO the police should be using the new law to stop that sort of thing.

Which im sure no one who wants them to have greater powers would object to!

CoffeeandPainting · 04/04/2020 01:50

These next few days is the effect of that weekend and Cheltenham...

So who knows, Hopefully not so lax this coming weekend

Randomschoolworker19 · 04/04/2020 02:00

I really do hope the police start cracking down on people. Some people only understand serious consequences.

If it were me I'd fine people 30% of their monthly salary for serious breeches like those dick heads who refused to disperse from the BBQ.

More fines and community service helping the NHS for repeat offenders.

Callo · 04/04/2020 02:10

I follow the local police force on Facebook and they've been driving around checking people are adhering to lockdown rules. They said people have been doing well, so fingers crossed that continues

Zaphodsotherhead · 04/04/2020 07:39

Our local police force has been out stopping cars and asking for the purpose of the journey. But they can only ask! My DS26 was stopped in his car heading to the supermarket, they asked where he was driving to. He said ASDA, they waved him on his way.

So what happens if everyone they stop just says 'we're going to ASDA' even if they are heading for the beach? We're in a very rural, spread out area with the nearest large supermarket a 30 mile drive away, so it's likely some people are going to try this at the weekend.

Although i guess not many take a surfboard to ASDA...

Letsdoanamechangeagain · 04/04/2020 08:12

Its things like this that are going to happen. Unsurprisingly, the backlash has been significant.

I believe they have now back tracked. But the fact they believe that this is ok to organise in the first instance is just beggars belief.

What stupidity will Sunday bring?
coachman · 04/04/2020 08:20

@Letsdoanamechangeagain that's unbelievable. Don't they know that group gatherings are banned?

Eggcited · 04/04/2020 08:29

Letsdoanamechangeagain So irresponsible, however I suspect they won't be the only ones.

lifestooshort123 · 04/04/2020 08:37

My DOH is a key worker and working Sunday (7 day weeks at mo) - it's also his birthday but he's going to put his big boy pants on and get on with it. We live in a flat so I will walk briskly round the block then stay in and Skype my darling family who I miss so much - not taking any chances.
